In the eyes of Lincoln it was an insurrection rather than a revolt, and sought to put it down as one, which lead to early successes for the confederacy. Despite this the many advantages of the north; ranging from more citizens, to more income, caused the inevitable collapse of the south. While the south did have more officers, and skill sets more akin to warmaking; none of this would be enough to beat the union defending it's ideals. The war itself didn't strt as the union had expected.…

I found it very refreshing to use time I normally spend studying abstract theories and concepts, by actually spending time with people. As a psychology major, I found the autonomy especially important in being able to teach what I felt was important without following strict guidelines. I learned that I really enjoy teaching and engaging in conversations with various people. I had no idea that I would enjoy research but when it comes to public health and mental health I do.…

After my personal experience in HSYLC I built the HSYLC club at school to spread the spirit of liberal arts education. I organized, led, and helped students to attend China Thinks Big, USAD, and HSYLC. I built an alumni association to gather students from all over the world who have attended HSYLC and invited them to share experience and give speeches about techniques of success. This club has a great influence on me that I improved leadership by organizing a whole group; I gained team spirit by cooperating with club members; I developed communication skills by contact with different people.…

Everyone is aware of the name Wake Forest University carries. Obviously, I too want to be part of the Demon Decan Community. Wake Forest embodies the community spirit that encourages intellectualism and promotes civic engagement. The biggest reason for transferring to Wake Forest University is the philosophy of educating the whole person. As an Aga Khan Foundation Youth Ambassador, I was heavily involved with sustainable projects that had a purpose of solving challenges the ambassadors identified in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex. Neither of our projects were one day projects, or charitable in any sense. Because the Aga Khan Foundation focuses on sustainable development, the ambassadors make sure to model the work and “Think globally, act locally.” Rooted deep into Wake Forest’s community is the…

I was awarded a wonderful education at Windham High School, but beyond the information I retained, I also learned what is important in life. At first, I thought all that mattered was the clothes you wore, what makeup you had on, and who you were friends with. There is more to life than all that. I love helping others and my induction into the National Honor Society allowed me to do just that, especially in my four service projects I had the opportunity to lead and be a part of. I try to please people and make sure they are always happy and I now know it is most important to give back to the community who gave me so much.…

    1. The Holocaust unit we learned about in class has impacted my life in many ways. It has changed a lot of my opinions on a variety of different topics and made me realize how horrific the Holocaust actually was. It was not until after the lesson was complete that I totally grasped the severity of the events that took place at the German hand. I was shocked and appalled by the actions and crime I heard about during this dark time in history. I have been enlightened to new things I never thought possible for human beings to do. My participation in Student Government has taught me important leadership skills I will be able to carry with me throughout, not only my college career, but my nursing career. Sports has taught me that hard work, discipline, and teamwork will not only defeat any obstacle that comes my way, but with the help and encouragement of others, we can come together as one and get the job done. My extracurricular activities have taught me that with the aid of others anything is possible. Through my community service volunteering at a local housing company for the mentally disabled, I have seen first-hand what the impact one person can make on another’s life. Helping and mentoring the mentally disabled who can’t do some tasks on their own has touched my heart and changed the way I appreciate life in many different aspects. It just reminds me of how fortunate I am to be able to help other, despite the time it takes to do so. The overall time I have sacrificed to do these extracurricular activities inside and outside of school has all been well worth it. Overall, the life lessons I have learned and the change in character I have gained from these activities are gifts I will be able to carry with me in able to achieve my goal.…
