The Importance Of Homelessness In New York

According to Coalition for the Homeless, in September there were 61,931 homeless people in New York City just sleeping in the New York municipal shelter system, and not counting the people out on the streets. So when I had a chance to visit New York City, I saw a homeless person almost every corner I turned on the streets. Most of them were sitting in their dirty clothes, holding up a cardboard sign reading, “Need Help.” This shook me up immensely time. Just by looking into each set of eyes, surrounded by the grand city of New York, I now realize the importance of how hard work can affect my future. I was lucky enough to be able to fly out to New York City, and experience things kids my age generally are not able to experience. It was amazing! Although we only stayed for a couple days, we were able to do much with the time we had. My family and I reached the top of the Empire State Building, walked about central parked, ate pizza, and much more. The hotel was beautiful, but we stayed in a tight room which my four family members and I could hardly fit in. One of the less unfortunate things I saw, was all of the homeless. I understand most of them did not choose to be homeless, but the tough work that I put into my age and grade now will help me immensely in the future. If I continue to put forward my best foot at school and sports, I could maybe accept a scholarship to a moral school. I would then be able to study what I want to so I could go on to receiving a decent paying job. I know that all of this above will not be handed to me, which is why I am taking a step forward now and staying hard-working and committed.
