Although there are many schools that does do locker searches, other schools don't do locker searches. There are some schools that have found materials in lockers that others are not supposed to have at school. Also there are many schools that don't do locker searches that should. First and foremost why students agree about looker searchers is because if someone is hiding a weapon or something like that in there then the school could be in danger. Also if other had a gun and lost a person's temper and went on a rampage others could start killing people in the school. Next others could find knives and blades and other tools to look for in the lockers. Also others could easily hurt someone with a knife other could be messing around and still

In order to have reasonable suspicion, school administrators must have sufficient knowledge to believe that a crime has been or is about to be committed. This differs from the grounds of probable cause because the officers must have sufficient and accurate facts to believe that a crime has been or is about to be committed. Reasonable suspicion for school administrators could be as simple as a rumor. Once that rumor is brought to attention, administration is expected to perform an investigation and if a search and seizure is required of them, it must be a search relative to the scope of the issue at hand. For example, a search of a student’s locker or car on school property with the belief that there may be drugs would be a sufficient search where as a strip search of the student’s body would be considered intrusive. The facts of the two cases, Best V. New Jersey and Safford V. Redding, clearly portray the difference between the two…

The authors also state that suspicionless searches teach students that rights do not matter. I disagree with the author's point of view on overstating the dangers of drugs in schools. I believe it is a growing concern in our public school system. How do we expect a student to concentrate in class if he is stoned all the time? I think instituting random school searches should be on a case by case basis by school district. Blankenau and Leeper's article do not raise any issues of escalating school violence. Are weapons growing concerns like drugs are? The authors surveyed responses of Nebraska High School Principles to obtain data on how effective their drug polices have been. The article in this book does not allow me to make any comments on the strengths and weaknesses of their field study because they did not go in depth of what the study…

Bookbag and locker searches should be done primarily because it lowers the amounts of deaths and injuries occurring in schools. When it comes to random student locker searches, I feel that all teachers have the responsibility to give any information that they may have concerning any illegal acts that their students are involved in. If this information leads to the administration searching that student’s locker, then it is being done to make sure all the students are being kept safe. I do not feel that anyone’s locker should be searched without a significant amount of proof or suspicion. It should not be done just because the student is considered a trouble maker. Though a student may be breaking the law or rules of the school, I feel that the student still has the right to have their privacy protected. When searching the locker, I feel that some discretion needs to be taken. Allowing the student body to know why and when another student’s locker is being searched would be, in my opinion, considered an infringement on their privacy. I feel that all of the students rights should always be protected. It goes with the old rule of thumb, innocent until proven guilty. Even when found guilty, the rights of the students should still be protected, but only to the extent that it maintains the safety of the student body. For example, if nothing is found during the search, not only could this be embarrassing to the student, it could also be an embarrassment to the school administration. On the other hand, if a gun were to be found in the student’s locker, then that student would not have the right to just leave the school. Their rights would be limited in order to keep the rest of the students safe.…

Firstly, the students see the searches of their lockers is an invasion of property given by the school itself "The biggest drawback to a school locker search is the lack of trust students may feel as a result of actions they see as an invasion of privacy. Because students may keep personal items in their lockers, such as photographs and personal letters, even a search with the best intentions can appear to be a major breach of trust by teachers and administrators, causing a rift between the student body and the faculty" (classroom-synonym) the evidence states that the searches would be negative in many ways. First being a violation of the 4th amendment, and second, searches decrease the trust between teacher and students in an environment where the teachers require the students to trust them. In addition, the students feel that it is a violation of their privacy. Students question why they are being targeted. Some schools say that the lockers are their property, however backpacks are the students’ private property, but schools state that whatever comes to school, the teachers are obliged to search if reasonable (classroom-synonym). In the case of New Jersey v T.L.O, although the bag was owned by…

The argument against backpacks is now justified because students can keep back packs with them and nobody will get hurt. Teachers can set up a designated area for backpacks to got to prevent tripping or any injuries during the school day. Students backpacks will no longer lay about and cause a potential threat to students and teachers safety. We can place them in certain areas of the classroom so that we to continuously ensure the safety of faculty and students. Also back packs pose no greater danger with weapons and or drugs then students everyday purses, gym bags, or even laptop bags. Those items can be just as dangerous as any book bag out there. A bag is a bag, so if you're allowing gym bags, purses or anything of the sort consider that the threat may still remain without backpacks. Last of all having backpacking during emergencies would speed up any the safety procedure since your backpack would be right there with you at all times during the day. The lockers have been given to the students expecting them to take care of it and being responsible over it. What is the need to go through it? I have been given a locker since sixth grade and never once has a teacher much less a principle gone through my locker. If they were to go through my locker it would make me feel like i'm a suspect for something I have no connection with.On our way into school each day student’s book bags are checked each day. There have even been instances in which the security guards have taken over an hour to go through the student's belongings, while teachers, administrators and principals go through without being checked not only is it hypocritical but unjust. Teenagers should be given the benefit of the doubt. I have been present in an event where a teacher unjustifiably read his messages out loud after his phone rang in class without him even having it in his hands. It wasn't in the teacher’s responsibility nor authority to go through his messages much less reveal his messages. We are called the next generation yet we are restricted to are given liberty's by others insecurities. If people can't practice what they preach then they should change their speech. I would rather be considered a rebellious teenager than a lying hypocrite.Trust has become nothing but a blur and a silver lining with perseption, perseption is all that they can see in the end of the…

Students will be more comfortable with a dress code and still get to express themselves through fashion. In conclusion, school uniforms are not always beneficial. Children should have the right to appropriately dress for school. This right allows them to experiment with their creativity, imagination, and develop their personality. School should support diversity instead of equality by wearing the same outfit, because each and every student is different and unique. Diversity helps individuals to understand one another and helps spark interest. Clothing expresses a person’s rare personality and culture, it should be their right to show their peers their true…
