A professional is defined " characterized by or conforming to the technical or ethical standards of a profession : exhibiting a courteous, conscientious, and generally businesslike manner in the workplace."[merriam-webster.com] So, this brings me back to the importance of professionalism. Bad rep will only get you extra duties and your comrades ostricizing you. No one wants to be associated with a shit bag because they don't want people to think that they are a shit bag as well. But, if you act as professional, you will stand out in a good way. People will look at you and they will think to themselves 'Damn, that Marine is squared away.' Professionalism will get you look at for promotions, other Marines will look up to you, and junior Marines will most likely find that you are someone to go to if they need help with anything (work or personal). One example of professionalism would to come to work in the correct uniform: boots, boot socks, bootbands, woodland utility trousers with nametape, woodland utility blouse with name tapes, and woodland garrison cover. Another example would be to respect your senior marines: listening to what they say, obeying their orders, not gaffing them off, being polite, and addressing them by rank. Another example of being a professional would be doing the right thing at all times, even when no one is watching. Integrity and ethical behavior are essentials to professionalism. A real life example of being professional is the story of Lance Corporal Johnson. Johnson was an excelent marine. He stayed away from all the shit bags in his company. When he got to his company
