Technology, engineering, and math (STEM) have not had a major growth within the 21st Century. As a result, the lack of growth in STEM has had a major impact on the economy. Because of the high level of thinking and problem-solving skills needed to understand STEM subjects, the people who work in these fields end up having a high income. Another factor that contributes to the STEM are the number of men that pursue these careers. Over the past few years, many people have tried to increase the amount of women in these fields by creating organizations
that encourage women in the United States. For example, Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) and Women’s Society in Engineering (WSE) have drawn many women into the STEM careers. However, this is not enough. Science, technology, engineering, and math will not grow and thrive without the help of women. Throughout the past century, women have made a major impact on the world. By increasing the amount of women in STEM, the United States will be able to keep up with the demands of neighboring countries. In order to entrench a growth of women in STEM, the government needs to sustain all actions necessary to ensure girls are exposed to STEM. The government should create better programs for girls, enforce a strong curriculum for schools, and make sure that these women get rewarded for their accomplishments. By taking these measure the government will improve the gender gap within science, technology, engineering, and math fields.
