the gender gap is slowly decreasing. Young women are shrinking the education gay and earning degrees such as a master's degree and bachelor's degree. In fact, women are earning more bachelor and master's degrees than men. In addition, women are also finding careers in law, business and medical schools. Women are starting to over come the limits of gender in the labor market. They are no longer settling for nurses, secretaries or salesclerks. Women are overcoming the great gender gap. Over the years studies have taken place in order to try and resolve this problem concerning the gender gap.
According to the tables on pages thirty nine through forty the studies that presented show that women earn seventy seven percent of what men make during an average of fifteen years, but the studies which show the true incomes pay between the two different sexes shows us that the gap is much greater. Women are actually only making sixty two percent of what men are earning. The figure is summed up when the men's average earnings were at $49,068 and women's were far below the men's income at $ 29,507 for the fifteen year average. While the study showed that women had a tendency to work few hours, the men's pay was remarkably higher. The concept that the women's pay was as low as half their male counter part raises large concern for the women that are single. Single women would be obligated to live only off of only one salary that is half the salary of a mans. This is one of many concerns over gender discrimination. Women are only getting paid just over half of what men are being paid for the same amount of …show more content…
work.
On main cause the women have not yet been able to shrink the gender wage gap is the fact that women are more likely to be long term low wage earners as opposed to men who are more likely to move up in the pay scale faster and increase the gap even more between women and men.
The men's salary is increasing faster because of the wage pay of the starting salary. The average male earns up to seventeen percent more in the begging pay then women. More reasons causing the gap between the genders to remain distant is the ratio of men to women who earn over $50,000. Forty two percent of men a year earn well over $50,000. Women on the other hand have a pathetic nine percent of all females that earn over $50,000 a year. This huge difference makes it nearly unattainable to close the gap between different sex
wages.
Personally, I believe that there is always going to be a gender wage gap. There are many differences between the two sexes when it comes to labor and output production. One's income is determined by the amount of positive output they can produce in a specific amount of time. However, now that women are increasing their education and receiving more and more bachelor's degrees, and master's degrees, the labor market will grow positively with their contributions. Before women were seeking careers in law, and business, the real wage rate in the labor market was decreasing because of the low wages being paid. Now the demand for female labor is growing while the amount of women's educations is increasing too. The labor market has the effect on the GDP and Real wage rate thus making it hard for the women to close the margin gap between the cost of hiring men and women. Also, many single women struggle with wages, working for low income causing the poverty threshold to grow. Women; especially single women have troubles making a decent salary compared to a man. Because of this, women are more likely to be buried in poverty or living a hard life.
"It is widely believed that one of the achievements in recent decades has been the closing of the wage gap between men and women," wrote Stephen Rose. This is somewhat true, and to some extent, an illusion. Women are slowly, slowly closing the wages gap caused by difference in gender. The long term gender gap has been changing over the years but has still to be figured out. Studies show that this comes from today's society as the women gain more education such as more bachelor, and master degrees. It also shows that this gender wage gap comes form the change in the labor world allowing the women to educate themselves and seeks careers in other jobs than underpaid, and undervalued jobs. As soon as people realize the value of women in our workforce, the gap will start to grow closer and closer.
