The Importance of Science and Chemistry
In today's world, advancements in science and chemistry are fundamental for saving lives from diseases and saving the planet from pollution. Advances in science are transforming our world at an incredible pace. A recent advancement in science is the finding of another flu virus in Chinese chickens. Scientists found this virus before it progressed to infecting humans. Scientist can develop a way of exterminating this type of flu, thus saving human lives. Science saves lives everyday. In parts of Eastern Africa drought is increasing and poor families are suffering from starvation. Earth viewing satellites are used to position food drop off positions.
Chemistry is used to determine the causes smog that hangs over our cities.
By determining what causes such smog, scientist can develop a better catalytic converter in the cars exhaust system to filter out harmful gasses. Chemistry led to the discovery of chlorofluorocarbons (CFC). Chemist further investigated and found that CFC is the main cause for the depletion of the ozone layer. The discovery of this organic compound led to the ban of all items containing CFC. Chemistry also makes our everyday lives easier.
Chemistry was used to create the first transatlantic telegraph cable in 1858. This Invention made it faster, and easier to communicate to other people 7,000 miles away. Every day, people use products containing substances that were developed by chemists. Products ranging from cleaning teeth, to fighting bacteria, and the clothing you are wearing. Food is also another example of a product created by a chemist. Throughout this essay I have addressed many areas that chemistry and science play a huge role in. These areas range from saving human lives, preventing pollution, and making everyday lives easier. The importance of science and chemistry is not

In Lab 10 of Chem 115, students will work with a variety of different chemicals to see the effect they have on one another to produce a reaction. This lab will illustrate to students the importance of every detail of an experiment through either success or failure. Depending on the precision of the students, they will either see a reaction or have nothing happen at all. Through this lab, students will learn that the amount and characteristics of each chemical effects how it reacts with other chemicals.
