The Imprtance of Teaching Grammar in Teaching Classes

Grammar is very important for everyone who wants to learn English language because it is a central to the teaching and learning languages. It is a requirement for them to write or speaking correctly and fluently. By learning grammar, students can easily adapt of learning target language from native language. Other than that, grammar learning would help students grow intellectually. Student would probably never use the target language, but the mental exercise of learning it would be beneficial anyway. At first in learning it, students should try to understand grammar where the teacher is using it in a class. It can’t be denied that learning and teaching grammar is difficult but it is worth since English is our second language. English, like all languages, is full of problems for the foreign language learner. Some points are easy to explain like the formation of questions, the difference between since and for, the meaning of after all. Other problems are more tricky, and cause difficulty even for advanced students and teachers. In grammar, as a learner, we must think like what is the present perfect used? When do we use past tenses to be polite? What are the differences between at, on, in with expressions of place? (Swan, 2005). Using correct grammar can be the difference between success and failure. This includes the proper use of vocabulary, punctuation, and standard grammar rules such as subject and verb agreement. The goal of all communication is to be comprehensible, proper grammar is a crucial step in reaching this goal.
