Working with many difference cultures can be a great learning experience for us in our practice. Workplace diversity allows nurses with differences and similarities to share their knowledge and skills to meet the goals of their organization (Andrews & Boyle, 2016). In my practice I have worked with nurses from many different cultures. This experience has given me different perspectives and offered other options for problem solving. It has definitely had a positive effect on my nursing practice. When patients see this collaborative work environment, that builds their trust in the care they are receiving. Especially, if the patient is from a different culture.…

In an ideal world, humanity would understand that all mankind is created equally; that the underlying truth of each of us is goodness, and that through awareness, conscious choice and the willingness to create positive change, we could live in a world where diversity is celebrated. We would leave behind the substantial racist and oppressing patterns that exits in this world, specifically in the United States of America. It is said that the U.S. is a melting pot of cultures, and that we are a country of immigrants existing together as a new culture, living under the values of a democracy based on freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Yet this policy is completely disregarding…

So what exactly is "diversity"? Well, in short, it means differences among people, it makes each and every one of us unique. Over the years, Americans' freedom has been tied to religious and ethnic affiliations that privileged certain people over others. In the past, Americans have allowed freedom for some and slavery for others. In all, American diversity has been a common theme throughout U.S. history through the roles of race, ethnicity, gender, and religion.…

Diversity has many faces that range from gender, culture, ethnicity, race, economic status, physical abilities, and many more, and this can be a problem that can affect many people who are employed or looking for employment in society because they are being judged or discriminated against for their differences. But if business took the time to understand the importance of differences in people so many doors could open for the employers and employees. Allowing diversity in the workplace could increase work morale, attendance, customers, and efficiency and create a less stressful environment for employees. UIC is different than other colleges by having a wide choice of research to undergraduates. The Undergraduate Research Experience program works by pairing students with mentors who have the same research interests. Another research program that UIC has is the Undergraduate Research Assistant Program, it gives Honors College students the opportunity to achieve a wide range of research activity that includes business, education, engineering, the humanities and the arts, the natural sciences and mathematics, and the social sciences. A trade school that caught my attention was The College’s academic programs are Student-centered with small classroom sizes—an average faculty-student ratio of 1:19. I felt that tending to others needs was more important now then ever before. The opportunities I would have ordinarily ignored I pursued, now motivated by my understanding. I’ve devoted time to making casseroles for homeless shelters. When I pass by the poor box after church I slip a few dollars in. I motivated my family to go and shop for disadvantaged children during Christmas time, understanding that their families cannot provide for them in that way. I’ve also volunteered in soup kitchens during the holidays to feed the hungry. Because of my increased understanding, I’ve made helping others an important part of my life. So now when I drive through Baltimore feelings of sadness still accompany me, but I feel better knowing that I am continuing to improve the lives of people who need it the most. I want to continue to experience events, to see the world and going to Towson is a great opportunity to do so. I look forward to enhancing the values of the Towson University through continuous civic engagement and relationships with community members. I know that Towson’s commitment towards exploration and enrichment will help me to better the university and…
