The Kite Runner has been banned in some schools for homosexuality, offensive language, religious viewpoints, explicit scenes, and violence. All of these issues exist in the world so there’s no reason to try to hide them from people and not talk about them. It is different if you are reading this in middle school or under, that is too young to read this book. They could be scarred from some graphic scenes or language, or could just not understand what is going on at all. But it is different when you are in high school, you don’t get bothered as much by the violence and language. Also teenagers are more accepting of other people’s beliefs and accepting of who they are, so the religious viewpoints and homosexuality is not a big problem. In the book there are some violent scenes, like when a character is raped in an alley, and when another character is beaten, or when a character attempts to commit suicide. But those are all very important pieces to the plot so if you take those out or censor those parts, the book would make less sense and it wouldn’t be as quality of a book. The rape of Hassan is the main plot point of the book, with Amir obsessing over it and feeling so bad over it, that every event that occurs is because of that scene.
The Kite Runner should not be banned in schools because high schoolers are old enough and mature
