My white knuckles clutched the wheel as my little car whined and jerked into high gear, finally accelerating onto Six Forks. Barely a mile from home, and driving was already intimidating. My credentials were impeccable. I had passed a dreadful thirty hour class with a teacher whose voice carried to the moon and proven my driving prowess to a cartoonish instructor sporting a beret, plaid shirt, corduroy jacket, billowy pants, and a pair of suspenders. A pair of rimless spectacles made his eyes appear small and beady while accentuating his pudgy face. There was no conceivable reason to be nervous, but I could not shake the grim sense of foreboding that hovered over me.…

with more legal resources repeat players or RP. The RP is able to pursue their long-term interests through litigation and their legal competence. Not only would the RP get an experienced attorney, but he would get greater continuity, better record-keeping, more anticipatory or preventative work, more experience and specialized skill in pertinent areas, and more control over counsel (Galanter 1974 p. 21). The cost of litigation causes the OS to refrain from pursuing their interests after a cost benefit analysis. Therefore the RP and OS approach litigation differently.…

I felt like I had never run this fast, ever in my life. The pain was filling my legs; it felt like it was going to break them but all I wanted to was to slow down. However, nothing was going to slow me down no matter what happened. I could feel my hair flying behind me everywhere. My knees driving high up, and my feet moved fast across the track. I kept speeding up more and more, even though my entire body felt like falling apart. My entire chest was aching in pain, and it seemed like I could not even feel my legs. I was at the point of crying with pain, but I sped up even more because I knew this was only going to last for few more seconds. The finish line was only a few feet away, and I was pushing myself so hard, I felt like I was going to fall. With only one step, there was a moment where I was falling, but took the step and plunged myself for an end. I had felt like I had finally reached my goal for once in my life. Even though every part of my body was aching, I felt so much happier with myself than I had ever felt before. I looked around and felt content with…

The initial chaos of the emergency lasted merely an hour. Saline fluid filled my veins and computerized tomography scans sliced coronal views of my brain. I tried to relieve my anxiety by pretending that I was on an episode of Grey’s Anatomy- a director would call cut, the fear would subside, and the scene would end. I did not understand that I was facing a serious medical emergency that the doctors could not solve. I tried to muster the strength to move my lower extremities. My focus moved from the doctors’ confused faces to the people who stood in front of me. My family, gripping the spooks of the bed, reminded me that I should not compare the situation to an episode of Grey’s Anatomy. I realized that a director would not conclude the day with an oration on the success of our TV segment. Rather, a neurosurgeon would come in the room and tell me that I possibly had a stroke and that I had severe head trauma in the form of a concussion.…
