The painting made a turning point in art history that directed art onto a newer, realistic perspective and presentation. “The Last Supper is da Vinci’s visual interpretation of the evening before Jesus Christ was betrayed by one of his twelve disciples. In the movie The Monuments Men, there were bombs that hit the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and its Refectory where da Vinci’s, “The Last Supper,” was painted. This displays the amount of contemplation that went into his painting. Leonardo da Vinci used an experimental technique when he painted The Last Supper. Instead of applying the traditional manner of fresco painting, da Vinci painted on a dry wall to attain a more complex palette. This technique displayed da Vinci’s style of work. He took three years to complete this painting, but only decades later the painting started to deteriorate. The humidity hitting the wall had exposed the painting to many risks. The moisture on the wall caused portions of the surface to lift up and the vibrations from the Allied bombing missions almost caused the wall to fall.
