The Later in Life Adulthood: Reflection Paper
The location that was decided was the Brian Center located on the east side of Charlotte. The exact address of the location is 5939 Redman Rd. The initial person who informed the group about the information was Felicia. She had prior establishments with the agency and felt that volunteering with them would be refreshing. She had enlightened the group that the individuals are the retirement home casually play bingo and don’t mind our school involving in a function. Upon the arrival and appearance, the participation was excited and joyful throughout the entire session. The moment I arrived, the atmosphere appeared peaceful and quiet for the individuals. I was able to meet with an additional group member before the Social worker on site had given a tour. While the social worker went back to answer the guarded entrance an older woman in a wheelchair had asked if I could push her. In my mind, she reminded me of my grandparents who had oftentimes needed help with tasks whenever I visited home. She had happily directed me to the dining hall and told me her name was Mrs. Pearlie. I allowed her to vent and tell me about her day and how she was excited to play some bingo. She had explained that she rarely wins the game and could wait to play with us. With much enthusiasm, I had told her that, I would give her as much of my luck as I can truly give …show more content…
It was noticeable that the majority of the participants had slower motor skills and moved their physical bodies with minimum motion. In their appearance, one older woman experienced extreme wrinkles, hair thinning, blurred or significant changes to her vision. For instance, I would constantly look over at her bingo sheets to determine if she had the accurate numbers to correctly call bingo. Once it was time for their dinner, the food looks fresh and well made to fit their nutrition. Though the individuals in our unit had a vegetable, meat, and bread.
