The Legacy Of Helen Keller: Blind Or Deaf

As the infamous Helen Keller once said, “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart”. Helen Keller was a very talented woman. She had two major disabilities. She was blind, and deaf meaning she could not hear or see anything. But that didn’t stop her from learning and doing what she loved most, writing. Helen Keller was the first ever deaf-blind person to graduate college with a bachelor degree. She was not born blind nor deaf, and she started talking at only six months. Sadly, around nineteen months, her parents realized that she didn’t react at all when the dinner bell rang, or when a hand was waved in front of her face. They were worried and took her to the doctor as soon as possible. That’s when they realized that she was both blind, and deaf. During her young ages, it was hard for her to communicate at first, but she said it got easier over time. She learned how to read and understand braille. She also had four siblings, Mildred Keller, James Keller, William Simpson Keller, and Phillips Keller. She was also diagnosed with a disease called “Brain fever”, that illness is still a mystery even to this day. During her older ages, she was very inspirational, and over time learned how to read and
Even though she was a very successful, she was very hard on herself and got frustrated very easily. Helen Keller is probably the most driven person i have ever heard of, she didn’t let anyone or anything get in the way of her path of becoming a successful author. She dreamed big until her dream came true, even though it was very difficult. Try this, try putting yourself in her shoes, try writing a successful book, and learn how to read and write, while not being able to see or hear anything. Not so easy is it?
