caused the division between the North and the South because the Northerner were against slavery, while on the other hand the Southerner were pro-slavery. Southern believed there is nothing wrong with slavery because the slave were their just help out the white community. Slavery was very crucial part of the Southern population because the South needed slaves to in-order to obtain more representation. The North and the South disagreed which states are going to be enslaved and which will be freed. Bleeding Kansas for example, gave an opportunity to Kansas to vote if they wanted to be freed or enslaved state, but Missouri wanted Kansas to be enslaved, so they snicked into Kansas and voted for slavery, which led to bigger problems. Slavery questioned the development of states rights and the power of the federal government, states right was a conflict between the federal government and the states, over political power. The states right was developed because of slavery; this questioned if the federal government had the power to regulate or abolish slavery. This led to the conflict between the North and the South states because the South wanted more states rights and that the states should have the right to choose if slavery should or should not exist. As shown in the article, Causes Of Civil War, "The South feared Abraham Lincoln because they feared the republican would abolish slavery" ( historynet.com). When Lincoln was elected in the 1860's, he did not want the states to be separated into free and slaves states, instead he wanted every state to be freed. The Scholastic journal; A Nation Divided States, showed that the South did not want federal control, " The Southern state knew Lincoln opposes slavery, and they feared he will abolish it in the South" (Zach Jones 2), so the South fought against the North because Lincoln was on the Northerners side. So the South wanted states to get more rights, which would allow them to control based on the peoples choice in that state. Slavery caused the more frequent use of underground railroads because slaves tried to escape the South, to gain freedom. Abolitionist helped the slaves from the South to escape, this was very dangerous because if the slave is find in the underground railroad, they would be killed and the abolitionist would be also killed. As shown in the Causes Of The Civil War article, "Some abolitionists actively helped runaway slaves to escape via "the Underground Railroad, and there were instances in which men, even lawmen, sent to retrieve runaways were attacked and beaten by abolitionist mobs" ( Robert B. Mitchell). About 6,000 slaves were able to escape successfully with this method, with the help of Harriet S, Truman. She was "The most famous activist of the underground railroad was Harriet Tubman, a nurse and spy in the Civil War and known as the Moses of her people"( ) The economic development like the Cotton Gin gave Southerners a reason to keep slaves. In 1793 Eli Whitney invented a machine that separated the seeds and the fiber quickly and efficiently, called the cotton gin. The invention of the cotton gin was harmful to the slaves, as stated, "Whitney's cotton engine, or gin, made cotton an economically viable crop for the South and revitalized slavery, which had been declining due to the decline of tobacco" (_) The Civil was not inevitable because the South did not want the slaves to be freed under no circumstances.
The South had a weak military in compassion to the North, but that did not matter to them because the strongly believed in slavery. Slavery was a main cause of the Civil War because everything that led up to the Civil War, related to slavery in a way. For example the tension between the North and South was over slavery because the North was against slavery, while South was pro slavery and the to fought because none of them wanted to compromise because the South want to spread slavery, while the North want every state to be freed. The States rights was important, but also was related to slavery because it questioned if the federal government has the right to abolish slavery. The use of underground railroad were more used because the slaves wanted to escape and get freedom. The election of Lincoln related to slavery because he was against slavery. These four reason shown, tells that slavery was the main reason to the Civil War. The states rights, economic development, and western expansion all revolved around Slavery because the major conflict which led to states rights problem was because the North and the South fought over either states should be freed or enslaved. Western Expansion also questioned if the other states should be a slave state or freed state. The economic development like the use of underground railroad and the cotton gin was based on
slavery. Slavery was a major cause of the Civil War because Slavery was the caused all other problems that a came along the way, for example state's rights. Slavery was a major issue that was not compressible by those who oppose slavery and pro- slavery because they did not want half, but wanted all to freed or enslaved.
