This all started out with the missouri compromise which itself would have been an odd numbered state and that wasn’t allowed so it came to Maine balancing the power out by Northerns decision. What the missouri compromise said was anything below the missouri state line would be a slave state and anything above …show more content…
would be a free state. Next came the annexation of texas from mexico of which the Mexican American War had major battles such as the Palo Alto. The northerners though, didn’t want texas to be accepted by union because Texas would be below the state line which would make it a slave state and not only that but it would move more slavery westward. Next came the Kansas Nebraska act which let people among these two territories to vote and decide whether or not they would be slave states. The flaw with the this act was how missourians went around the towns of Kansas, and killed many that did not vote slavery. They even killed women and children. This event supported to the “violent attitude” that was stated in the introduction paragraph. Many people saw this event as a hatred of the people that supported slavery and the people that didn’t. This was called the Bleeding Kansas. After this act was passed by congress, elections became the center stage.
After Abraham lincoln was elected as president, South carolina seceded from union because they saw Lincoln's election as a shift in power among the union. Lincoln was a Northerner which put the South at a huge disadvantage. The south knew when the Northern power would come into play slavery would end. Which would put an end to south's economy and because of this South Carolina left union and later, every other southern state would follow this which would lead into the civil war starting.
Even though these were what contributed their were also other factors like, the novel “Uncle Tom’s Cabin. This novel was about slavery and the awful experiences they’d have to face. This book was the best selling book next to the bible at the time and the popularity around it was because how the North during this time thought that’s how the slavers were really treated and they were furious of the types of conditions and the treatment they were put on. When they read this novel they got angered at the South because it showed how inhumane and assumed they treated all slaves like this. This book may have been a very important cause of the civil war because of what the North that about them. The funny part is, the book was actually false, fiction and the South was outraged that the North would believe such a thing and this cause conflict between the North and the South.
After the Civil war was over over 618,000 were dead and 7000,000 many more were wounded.
With all these deaths and carnages you can only imagine how it affect the North and the South. But surprisingly, it only affected the South.
With the end of the Civil war directed in to the abolition of slavery you make ask why is this bad? The southern parts of the U.S used and relied on slavery for agriculture as their main source of income of their economy. As you know the agriculture economy wasn’t paid labors it was nothing but slaves so when the war ended with the North being Victorious and the union staying together, The heart of the south's economy was ripped out. The north's industrial economy never occupied such a large slave labor like that south did, so most states abolish slavery by 1800. So, as you can guess the North was never affected. Most may think that slavery was the worst thing for the South at this period of time but they also had other issues, the devastation of war had ruined farms and cities, Some northerners wanted economic revenge on the south, The confederate money, war bonds that people once had were worthless, lastly they were forced to change to a social and economic structure because of the end of
slavery.
