The Loyalty and Loss written by Margaret M. Storey is a well-written and persuasive book studying how the Unionists in Alabama, the Deep South state, confronted the Confederate authorities during the civil war and their life in the Reconstruction. The first interesting thing I found was that the diversity of the Unionists. The author tried to find the similarities among the different Unionists and surprisingly she found out that the Unionists were highly distributed. Some of them could from the infertile hill county and the others could from the rich Tennessee Valley. No matter how different their backgrounds were, all of them undertook great risks on defying the confederate authorities and fight for their belief.…

This story started off getting to know Ishmael's friends and family. How they live and where they live. When the got the news that the rebels attacked the mines then. When the rebels attacked Mattru Jong, Ishmael and his friends left the town. The conflict happened in the beginning or at least one of the conflicts. They rebels have killed people and Ishmael doesn't know if his family is dead or alive. The people that the rebels capture were new recruits. Ishmael escaped them and left Mattru Jong but had to return to get some food. The sneaked into Mattru King and noticed that some rebels are very young like 12 years old. When they tried to escape, they got captured. The rebels choose who they want to recruit and the other were executed. When…
French folklore attributed the Tapestry to Matilda, William's wife. Its creation is now attributed to Bishop Odo, although French historians do still try as much as possible to connect her in some way or form to the Tapestry because it is 'both more gallant and more poetic.'…
Both the Bayeux Tapestry and the Portable War Memorial try depict or show just what the war looked like to the artists in different lights, while one glorified or showed the victory war can bring the other showed how war affects the present, and the awful side that can come from it.…

Abraham reflects this idea of imitatio dei or emulation of God by setting a paradigm to be followed, one that is worthy of imitation (Levine). By striving to immolate a representative or prophet of God, Jews are helping themselves to greater immediacy with connection to God. They are drawing near to God by immolating his agents on earth. This reoccurring idea of being tested throughout Abraham’s journey, from rejecting the idolatry religion of his father Terach to undergoing painful circumcision at 99 years of age and so on, Abraham demonstrates that followers of God should do what they are asked especially if one is convicted by the existence of a perfect Creator. At the end of Genesis 11, the genealogy listed Abraham as the new hope for…
The battle of the Plains of Abraham was fought on the 13th of September 1759. It was the result of a three-month British siege of the French North American capital of Quebec City. Although the battle lasted for a short period of time, involved comparatively few troops, and caused few casualties, the effects of the battle were far reaching. The British victory at the battle resulted both in the death of the French general – the Marquis de Montcalm – and the British major general James Wolf. More importantly, the battle resulted in the capture of Quebec, which in turn, led to the capture of the remaining French territories of North America.…
Tiziano Vecellio lived from 1488–1576 and was known as Titian, was the greatest Venetian artist of the sixteenth century, eventually gaining international fame. Titian contributed to all of the major areas of Renaissance art, painting altarpieces, portraits, mythologies, and pastoral landscapes with figures. In the piece titled, “The Sacrifice of Isaac,” Titian demonstrates his style in the use of oil on canvas. This painting of Abraham and Isaac is (328cm × 285cm) and was painted during 1542-1544. The work is linked to scripture from the Bible and is now in the church of Santa Maria della Salute in Venice. It was originally painted as a ceiling painting for the…

In the Old Testament, Abraham and Moses were two very prominent leaders chosen by God to do his will. Throughout Genesis and Exodus, both men play important roles in fulfilling God's will. They are put to many tests, given covenants, and communicate constantly with God. Although they have many similarities such as being leaders and men of God, there are also many differences between the two.…
The artwork I selected is Lot & Daughters by Orazio Gentileschi. The piece is on display at the Getty Museum and was painted in 1622. This piece is a dynamic, wonderful example of the baroque style. Gentileschi’s strong use of chiaroscuro makes the painting seem to be a living scene being viewed from the other side of a window. His use of the three primary colors for the three subjects clearly defines each of them; while still creating color harmony. The subject matter is the story of the city of Sodom from the book of Genesis. Lot and his family are saved by God as He destroys the evil inhabitants of Sodom. Lot’s wife is turned to a pillar of salt when she turns back to the city, leaving only Lot and the girls as survivors. Having no faith that their lineage will continue, Lot’s daughters get him to drink wine (as the flask and goblet on the left side of the painting elude to) and each lie with him in order to get pregnant. They each have a son and the lineage continues even to include David and Jesus.…
Abram is presented to us as an old man without an offspring or heir. He is at the age of seventy-five when God comes to him with the offer of the covenant. Abraham stands for devotion, justice, compassion, faith, tact, and personal integrity. He is also seen as cunning, humorous, and pragmatic throughout the story. Abram is a man looking for his faith, and God asks Abram to leave his land and kinship to a land which God will show him. In exchange for Abram's faith and compliance, God will make of Abram a great nation, make his name great, bless those who bless him and curse those who curse him, and finally all the communities of the Earth will find blessing in him.…
The first 39 books of the larger work called the Bible, is called the Old Testament. The Bible itself is arguably the best selling and most read book of all time, yet it’s well known to be quite challenging to read through and understand. The Old Testament portion of the Bible, notably the most difficult portion of the Bible for most to study and follow, yields 39 books from multiple authors, and spans over 4000 years of crucial world and church history. If that were not enough to take on, the Old Testament comes our way through multiple styles of authorship and formats, including but not limited to, books of history, law, proverbs, ethics, philosophy, treatises, dramas, songs, epics, biographies, and letters. There have been many books written and published to survey, explain, and/or bring to light the Old Testament, but none more helpful to me than the review subject of this paper, the work of Dr. Elmer L. Towns, entitled “A Journey Through the Old Testament”.…
Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are all very closely unified as Abrahamic religions because they share a multitude of common beliefs and thoughts. Hinduism, on the other hand is almost complete opposite of these religions. The extreme differences within these religions has seemed to cause problems between them throughout history. Hinduism is considered to be an Eastern religion while Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are considered Western. (Lafave,2004.)Location, leaders, religious practices, and political issues are just a few aspects that bring them to differentiating opinions.…
