Everyone copes with hardships in different ways. Some people tend to escape their difficulties and start to seek short cuts, while others face the adversities and patiently overcome them. In “The Mercy” (by Philp Levine), the speaker’s mother faced the adversity of not knowing how to perform certain tasks that may seem ordinary in U.S.A, but she remained patient while she learned how to perform those tasks. Many people encounter them, but very few people obtain the ability to tolerate their misfortunes. The ones who endure their misfortunes use consistent optimism and patience. During a school trip in grade 6, I faced a terrible mishap. My elementary school had rewarded the 6th graders for their academic accomplishments, with a field trip to Edmonton. We stopped by a fast food restaurant in Fort Saskatchewan for our afternoon meal. Due to the lack of time, the classmates and teachers left very quickly, leaving me as I was using the restroom. As I found out I was left in Fort Saskatchewan, I remained relaxed. I was certain that my teacher was going to look through the attendance, and even if she didn’t, my peers would have definitely sensed my absence. I also was aware of the fact that there were numerous reasons for the bus to arrive late, therefore I remained tranquil and tolerant, instead of feeling anxiety. When my mother was residing in India, she was a victim of a robbery, but reacted very serenely to it. She was struggling to walk through a densely populated road, after she got through the road and reached her dwelling, she became aware of the fact that she had been pickpocketed in the heavily populated road. The currency value of the stolen money was very high, but she kept her composure as she visited the police station and filed her complaint. My mother kept full confidence in God and she assured herself that God will help her. She also understood that the constables can take an immense amount of time to search for a pickpocket in a condensed city in India. Due to optimism and patience, my mother dealt with the misfortune with composure instead of
