The Monroe Doctrine was an expression of nationalism because it protected the culture of the nation. First, the Monroe Doctrine said that the U.S intended to stay out of any European affair, this shows that they were starting to care about what the nation needed to thrive. Second, the Monroe Doctrine said that the U.S would consider the establishment of any colony in America and hostile act, this shows that they are starting to see the U.S as a nation and they did not want anyone to take position of what was theirs.
