The Moon Landing Conspiracy Theory
Conspiracy theories are everywhere. It seems that for every event in to have taken place in history, there is a group of individuals saying that it is a government conspiracy. There are conspiracy theories regarding the 9/11 attacks, presidential assassinations, Area 51, Jimmy Hoffa, the English crown and Elvis. The list is endless. In this paper we are going to discuss the moon landing conspiracy. Apparently there are people who believe the entire moon landing was a hoax. They believe that we did not actually land on the moon, but produced the event in a movie studio so that we would be able to beat Russia in the great “Space Race”. These people have taken all the evidence from the moon landing and analyzed ever aspect and tried to find faults or inconsistencies with the evidence. We will take a look at some the reasons these conspirators feel that the Apollo 11 moon landing was faked and then will take a look at how they can be rebuffed and why these conspiracies came up in the first place. Piers Bizony, in his article The Great Uncertainty of Apollo, makes note that one of the reasons conspiracy theorist are so determined to believe that the moon landing was a hoax is that it does not follow the usual pattern of progress. He states that the Wright Brothers flew the first human aircraft and then forty years later air travel was routine (Bizony, The great uncertainity of apollo, 2009). He also mentions that it was the same with automobiles when Karl Benz patented the first automobile and then forty years later the industry was manufacturing approximately four million a year (Bizony, The great uncertainity of apollo, 2009). It has been more than forty years since the moon landing so why are the rest of us not able to make a trip into space? Where are our space rockets? According to another article by Piers Bizony (2009) one of the most common reasons conspirators believe the moon landing was faked was that the pictures that showed the flag waving
