Although I always hear about video games having negative effects, it is not always the case. For example, games are better than the real world, in a game you can be who and what you want and no one can tell you differently. Children not only can build up some confidence when they win a game, but also can improve different skills like calculating and solving complex math questions and improving writing skills through learning grammar skills from playing educational games.

With most games, it explains what you have to do and achievements you could get, this saves so much confusion and it is easy to set your on a specific goal. Setting a goal is very important, no matter whether the goal is to get a high score in a game or even a every daily life aim like getting A* in GCSE Maths. When looking at a deeper perspective, there are more positive effects found in, “Pro of Reality”, by James Paul Gee where he often mentions, “Different types of video games can have different kinds of effects”. He starts by expressing how games like Tetris, Bejeweled and Trivial Pursuit are fun, but also help exercise the brain by visualizing the patterns repeatedly. These particular patterns help develop the memory of the brain (Gee1). In the article, “How Do Video Games Affect the Developing Brains of Children and Teens”, by Amy Paturel, she states, “practicing anything repetitively physically changes the brain. With time and effort, you get better at the specific tasks your practicing.. Those repetitive actions and thoughts stimulate connections between brain cells…

Video games make your brain work in different ways. When playing a video game you first have to discover and learn how to make choice in the game. Video games make the player think not only by reading the instructions or rules to the game. The player learns how to play the game by making decisions and making mistakes. This skill can come in hand as a student; it can help them in their academic performance by giving them the confidence to make mistakes and make decisions in school. I believe that video games can help students become leaders as they use these skills. Just like playing a game you have to take control in order to become a leader. Being a leader means having control and making right decisions; something very similar as when you’re playing a video game. You need to take them same skills that are being used in the game and apply them to real…

Most kids would rather pick up a joystick than pick up a textbook. Much to they’re unknowing they are exercising their brains. While traveling and discovering this exciting virtual world, they begin to figure out the rules and understand their goals in order beat the game and win. What might seem like a mindless zombie sitting on the couch for hours is actually someone solving a profuse amount of puzzles that are instilled in their video game. Someone playing a video game must solve and complete direct conflicts while keeping their overall goal in perspective. Playing a video game is similar to solving a science problem. Video gamers must come up with a hypothesis while trying to accomplish a goal, much like a student conducting a lab would do. For example: if a gamer is searching for a hidden item and they hypothesize that the item is in a dragon’s belly, they will attack the dragon and discover whether their hypothesis was correct or false. If they don’t find the item they must modify their hypothesis the next time they play. Video games are driven by goals and objectives, which are essential…

Learning happens constantly, for whenever one plays a game, and whatever game one plays, whether the players want it to, and are aware of it, or not. ‘The players are learning “about life” which is one of the greatest positive effects of all game playing’ points out MIT Professor of Comparative Media Henry Jenkins. This learning takes place, gradually, and at the same time in every game, whenever one plays. Indeed, it is highly likely that video games help develop logic and critical thinking, as today they are not the simple-minded games of the 80's where the only thing you had to do was shoot and win. Now you will need to use humor and logic to come up with a successful strategy in order to conquer the game. Many detective and mystery games are based on such an idea as are a strategy and multitude of simulation games. Even various horror games involve a lot of thinking before acting since when you make a wrong decision when navigating a video game you may end up losing so when you make a decision you must make it wisely. Thus, critical thinking skills may be also advanced if playing video games can be carried out on a regular basis. Also, video games can stimulate imagination and creativity. Usually, video games show in the eyes of the person who plays the game, fantasy worlds and optimistic images which can greatly boost creativity in the same way as a book can activate creative images in a person's mind. Creativity and imagination can be created from the simplest source in order to raise the obtainable inspiration that a video game can provide. This brings us to our next point. Video games…

According to John DiConsiglio between 70% and 90% of teens in the United States play video games and it is said that 5% to 10% of those kids are addicted to gaming, but what about the other 80%? Although people may argue that the internet or video games cause adolescents to have antisocial personalities that isn’t necessarily true for every person.
