The Odd Couple-Female Version
The sloppy and the unblemished come together in the comedic play, The Odd Couple- Female Version. Two totally different girls have to learn how to get along. Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple- Female Version is performed at Beacon Charter High School for the Arts and is directed by Jason Robert LeClair. They are polar opposites, which is the main conflict in this play by Neil Simon. In this hilarious play, the messy, unorganized Olive Madison has to learn how to deal with her roommate, the clean freak, Florence Unger. The female version of The Odd Couple, takes place in the 1980’s and takes place Olive Madison’s Riverside Drive Apartment. In the first scene Olive, Sylvie, Mickey, Renee, and Vera are all around Olives dining room table playing Trivial …show more content…
When she was being sarcastic or angry she really kept a loud volume. The actor who played Sylvie, Mckenzie, was also beyond believable. She really amped up all of her acting and stayed character throughout the whole play. Most of them stayed in character, but sometimes I see some actors crack a smile when something funny happens. Their accents were also well rounded and really sounded accurate. Sarah really portrayed a no sense person. Florence had a really soft voice, so I thought she could work on projecting her voice. I also thought Mickey, Melissa, could work on her acting because I thought she was focusing more on just getting her lines said rather than really being the character. I thought Zoe was really well rounded and she made me laugh because she was also laugh but it was appropriate to her character. The scene I thought was exceptional was when Olive got mad at Florence and started to run after her. Olives facial expressions were beyond amazing. Both Aria and Andrea kept their characters in such a funny scene and I thought they executed is

Comedic JuxtapositionIn Beth Henleys play, Am I Blue, two main characters are presented. The two characters, Ashbe and John Polk, exert diverse personality traits, which cause comedic situations to arise within the play. It is often the case in comedy that two characters will present characters that obtain various apparent differences. Ashbe has an overtly eccentric personality while that of John Polk is comparatively mild and plain. From the moment the two become acquainted, amusement ensues due to their juxtaposition and the situation in which they find each other. By analyzing both Ashbe and John Polks similarities and differences, the factors that create this comedy are found.…

The acting in this play was great. The actor I was looking most forward to was Brooke Shields. Honestly don’t think that she was that great. It could have just been the character of Morticia, but after it was all over I felt like she stood out the least. To be fare it could have just been that she was having a bad night though because when she was handing out autographs after the play she apologized for not doing well. The other star, Roger Rees, was pretty good. He definitely was not my favorite part of the show, but he did a good job playing Gomez. He was somewhat dry, but he had enough to keep him memorable. Adam Riegler was the young boy who played Pugsley. He did an outstanding job and unfortunately wasn’t a huge part of the show. I would have liked it if they had involved him in a few more scenes. The best part of the show was definitely Rachel Potter in the role of Wednesday. She blew everyone else out of the water in terms of her acting and singing. She was the true star of the show in my opinion. The way she acted really made the audience want things to work for her and the character Lucas. The actors Heide Blickenstaff and Adam Grupper did a good job in the role of Lucas’ parents. I feel that they did there job in being good character foils to Gomez and Morticia. Jesse Swenson was another actor that I thought did great. He played Wednesdays love interest Lucas. He did a fantastic job and was almost as good as Rachel Potter. Another role which I was disappointed in was Brad Oscar…

To be completely honest, I would have to say that majority of the acting was very mediocre. I know it wasn’t supposed to be like something off of Broadway but I expected a lot more, and I felt like only a couple of actors came through with that. The acting was not terrible, but it wasn’t spectacular either. I felt like some characters were not putting their all into their characters. I also felt like some people should not have been casted into the roles they had received. Many times a background character would outshine a main character during the performance. Pertaining to the acting, I think that the fact that it was a musical added more stress to the actors which consequently could have placed a strain on their acting abilities. This is because they were most likely more concerned with their vocals. Something I did like in their acting was the fact that they used little children, I found that very adorable.…

The actress who played Claire portrayed the character well. From the beginning to the end she really captured the characters and her emotions. When she first entered on stage I was confused of what was going as she was walking aimlessly across the stage but later realized that was the whole point. She wanted the audience to believe she was confused and lost; and she did. I notice her break the fourth wall every now and then as she looked into the audience. I suppose it was part of the scrip to interact with the audience because she mostly did it when she was on the side doing random things with the people in tight pants. Her entrances where perfect every time, even though the scenes where being switched off between her and Richard in the car, she never seen to loose focus. You could clearly see every expression on her face which made it more realistic to the audience.…

Some argue that women’s roles are often tokenistic in dramatic comedy, since women often have smaller or less important roles than male characters. This may apply to the female characters in ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ depending on how you interpret the word ‘tokenistic’. The tokenism of a character may be assessed in terms of the size and significance, or by analysing the stereotypes and complexity of their characters.…
