For example the settlers in the New England region migrated to the Americas to escape the Church of England and to be their own church that would be based on their ideals. The settlers in the Chesapeake region were there on behalf of the Church of England as well to make money for themselves. The economy in both of the regions differed as well because of the difference in ideals. Moreover the New England region wanted equality between everyone no matter the stature of the family and that was largely due to their religion, whereas the settlers in the Chesapeake region where there to make money and it was based on your social class. In Williamson Murray's essay he discusses the struggle between the North and the South. Also how it was the first modern war that was fought using technology and industry on the slaughtering fields. The union lacked a cohesive army and a good plan of attack. Once General Grant was in command for the North, the Confederacy was hopeless to win. The Civil War ravaged armies of the North and South, many Americans lost their lives which made this the most costly of all the wars in American history. The North won the war because they "adapted to the conditions of the war." With the help of Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant, they came up with a strategy and won the war.…

The similarities that the Northeast and Midwest both have in common were that they both were well-developed and had people living in these urban places. In addition to the urban places, the Northeast and Midwest both reach over the 50% mark and had people still sweeping in, and passing over 75 percentile range. The “Northeast area was settled earlier than other parts of the country” and was the first to have the settlement of an urban location, which later in the years has transition to the Midwest, making it the second place to have been “aggressively settled and developed by the people from the Northeast.” In comparison to the South and West, they were the “least urbanized region of the country”, because not many people settled there. Today,…

Maine’s geography affects population distribution and employment opportunities because we have a coast next to the ocean. This means that we have the opportunity to be able to fish and lobster where as if we lived in another state not near the coast we wouldn’t be able to employ or have the opportunity to do this. We are quite fortunate for this but it also brings some challenges. One being that we have a certain amount of time to catch all the fish and lobster that is needed. There is a tight schedule due to the seasons changing and there is only a set amount of time to catch what is needed. The thing about Maine that gives it it’s greatest advantage is that it is the closest to Europe.…

A child’s world today compared to one in the past has vastly changed when it comes to education. The education currently provided for children differs from the past, as it is more creative and less about religion. The text indicates a time period between 1683 and 1830, which is during the Colonial times. The Colonial times reinforces the importance of Christianity by encouraging the idea that children can only be successful if they follow the moral laws of the Bible. “The New England Primer” serves to provide the religion in education by having the alphabet and a syllabarium alongside stories from the Bible, as well as separate prayers and promises to be memorized in the book.…

Physical features and where people were located affected how civilizations developed in North America. According to Guns, Germs and Steel where civilizations were located I the world affected what food you had witch changed their way of life. Jared Diamond talks about how natives to New Guinea have access to the Saco tree while people in the Middle East had access to wheat and barley. According to diamond’s theory the Middle East thrived more quickly because wheat was easier to store and process. While the Saco tree took three days to process and only lasted for three days. Therefore they were spending all of their time providing food while civilizations of the Middle East had time to do more things like provide more permanent shelter and discover new things that help them progress. It seemed like some civilizations like New Guinea were at a halt from progressing anymore, and it didn’t change over thousands of years, while civilizations from the Middle East and surrounding civilizations flourished. Food relates to physical features because based on your elevation (like if you were in the mountains) the climate changes and based on the different climate the different food you find and the different food you can grow. For example if you were in the rainforest you would find the Saco tree like in New Guinea, and in the plains you would find wheat and barley like found in the Middle East. Based on my experience from playing thrive I can conclude that depending on where your civilization was on the map, you received different variations of food and resource surplus and amount of it. For example if you were in a dominant coast you can harvest two fish per meeple but in a secondary coast you could only harvest one fish per meeple. The more food you got per meeple the more meeples you have left to do other things like build homes, and discover things to further develop your civilization. I think this applies in real life also with Europe…
