When S.E. Hinton wrote her famous novel “The Outsiders” she put many different types of characters with many different personalities in the novel. Just like a regular group of friends every character had a different personality. The five main character’s names are Ponyboy, Sodapop, Darry, Dally, and Johnny. All of these characters are friends of many different ages, but they are all in the same clique... the greasers.
The first character is Ponyboy, how he got his name I have no idea. Ponyboy is the youngest of the whole group. Ponyboy is different from most boys his age, he reads a lot of books and isn’t rough and tough like most boys are, also he wears his hair longer than most boys do. However,
longer hair isn’t odd for boys in his neighborhood of the greasers where nobody tends to get their haircut (Hinton, 1). Ponyboy is also kinda sheltered by the other members of the group, being the youngest he is often told what to do and always accompanied by an older member to keep him safe no matter where he goes.
The next character is Sodapop, again how he got his name i honestly have no idea.
