The Painted Tree By Alison Jardine
The artwork I chose is called, "The Painted Tree," by Alison Jardine. Alison used oils to create the artwork on canvas in 2010. The picture is a light and dark brown tree with several large branches. Surrounding the tree is rectangular shapes of different bright colors. These colors do not seem to have a pattern, but the do overlap the tree at times.

The art elements used in this piece includes, space and color. The use of overlapping rectangles over the tree shows the tree is farther away than the rectangles, which gives the illusion of space. So, the tree is farther away and the rectangles are closer to the observer. Also, the element of color is used. The colors around the tree are all very bright reds, yellows, blues, greens. The use

The medium was oil paint on a canvas which had a good affects on the tree. In grade 6 my class was shown a picture of the jack pine for landscape painting inspiration, once I saw it the image got stuck in my head. The colors collaborated where very interesting and the tree looked so realistic. Canadians should really know this famous piece because its transforming. Its so unique, I never heard about oil painting on a canvas until I researched further on about this piece. The sunset in a background looks exactly like most of the sunsets here in Calgary. This piece has a lot of simple parts of it that are a lot like Canada.…

The Tree #36, Martha’s Vineyard by Aaron Siskind and Photo 13A in the Ocean Details series by Joni Sternbach. The Tree #36, Martha’s Vineyard is a 14x11 inch black and white print taken in 1973. It is an abstract expressionism photo.…

I have adopted the use of intense colour in my own piece above. All the colours that were used for the path were mixed to create the brown for the trees and for some of the speckles that were flicked over the painting. I have also merged areas and blocks of colour together to build the sense of haziness. Furthermore, to create the sense of mistiness, I picked out some of the palest colours from the original image, which were purple and yellow. I then lightly washed these colours with a damp sponge behind the trees to achieve this look. The flicked speckles were added to the painting to help accomplish this look.…

Mary Oliver starts the poem by clarifying details about the conflict that has been troubling her and her mother. They are having financial issues, and the only way they can lessen their burden is if they sell the black walnut tree to the lumberman. However, the black walnut tree symbolizes so much more than a tree to Oliver and her mother; she doesn’t give much of an explanation about what the tree symbolizes, but we know that its roots go deep into their family history. At the end, they stay loyal to their ancestors and end up leaving the tree. Oliver uses figurative language and other literary devices such as imagery, symbolism, and diction.…

HOMS Theme Essay Growing up, everyone expects it as this unbelievably spontaneous thing . In Sandra Cisneros book “The house on Mango Street” states that growing up can happen to people variously, in good and bad ways. In the pages 46- 57 there is a lot of growing up in many of the characters especially Esperanza. Esperanza gets her first job, during her break time she mingles with an oriental man; “ He grabs my face with both hands and kisses me hard on the mouth,”(55).…

In the bottom left area of the painting you see a group of trees that are light green on its top leaves but a darker green for the leaves not seen. There is one subjected tree with a form behind that looks like it is a rose bush with its bright red flowers. Past that rose bush like figure the trees go beyond it blurring out. Now you are focusing on the bottom middle. There is a small splotch of dark brown that looks as though it is a bare area in the green field.…

Some of these archetypes that the painting includes are a powerful vibrant sky, big mountains in the background, large unique trees in foreground, and water with a welcoming feel. I created a darker feel for this painting by leaving the trees without leaves, saturating the sky with dark blues, and making a darker foreground grass with some highlights. Along with the…

A walk in the woods By: Dawson Pellegrin Alonso, a young explorer, took his adventure a bit too far when he got lost in a dark wooded area after thinking it would be a piece of cake. After hours of wandering without any trace of familiarity, he found himself in a marsh just off his trail, he walked right into a large quicksand hole, trapped in the quicksand that had sucked him into his hips. Knowing that no one is around, Alonso is determined to escape his fate of being swallowed by the sand. So in fright, he quickly grabs a nearby root of a half-sunken tree that was uncovered by the quicksand Alonso starts pulling as hard as he can but it feels like something is pulling on the other end trapping him like a rat keeping him from escaping and in that moment he sees two yellow eyes glaring at him from the bottom of the pit.…

The second art piece that I looked at was believed to be created by Qu Ding this hand scroll was created on silk with ink and pale colors during the 11th century of the North Song Dynasty. The hand scroll was created during a period when the images are meant to depict creation. Viewing the picture you connect with the nature as if present in the drawing, experiencing the textures that are created by the strokes and shadows that are created by the ink and pale colors used by the artist on the hand scroll. Possibly belonging to a collection this hand scroll creates balance while symbolizing an escape from life and into the world.…
