The architectural system employed by the Greeks in the construction of the Parthenon is the Post and Lintel System while the Romans used the Arch Technology. The Parthenon is a Doric style temple that consists of a rectangular floor, several low steps and eight Doric style columns on each side i.e. the front and back. The Pantheon looks similar to the Parthenon on the exterior but with eight Corinthian style columns instead. The Parthenon is characteristically thicker and more rectangular with oblong rooms and proportions. The Pantheon on the other hand is much sharper and cleaner in its outward look compared to the Parthenon. It has a massive hemispherical dome in the back. Inside the Pantheon, there is a highly decorated because the Romans focused more on the interior of the Pantheon than the Greeks did with the Parthenon. The Parthenon was built entirely of marble with a limestone base while the Pantheon was built from several materials such as marble, granite, concrete, and brick. Apart from housing the statue of Athena, the Parthenon also serves as an area where the citizens come together to discuss ideas, politics and economics. But the Parthenon despite this use was not open to the general public while the Pantheon has always been open to the general public. The Pantheon is also credited with having the world’s largest unreinforced concrete dome. The Parthenon is presently now a museum while the Pantheon is a Roman Catholic church and a popular tourist
