The Poison Fish Analysis
Reading has always been somewhat of a struggle for me, but I still love it. The reason I say it is a struggle is because I personally cannot immerse myself into a story the way most people can and I am also quite slow at reading. My comprehension of what is being read varies depending on the text I read. For example, If I am reading something for an English class, my level of interest is very low; but when I read fictional novels, the interest level is incredibly high. The same thing tends to apply with writing; a lot of people lack motivation.

I’m going to try and make this paper be less of a task for both myself to write, and for you, the reader to actually read, by doing my very best to keep it feeling like a conversation. I find it easier to keep a conversation with someone rather than give facts constantly like most of our

I think that goes for everyone though because if you know nothing about the subject you are reading or writing about, you can easily get bored of it because it is something that either doesn't interest you, or that simply just confuses you. That’s where “Engfish” might come into play. In the article, the author of The Poison Fish talks about how as people go through the schooling system and learn more vocabulary and proper writing skills, their imagination and speaking voice deteriorates when they write a text. The Poison Fish mentions that “The difference between the college students’ writing and the third grade child’s is simple: one is dead, the other is alive.” As a child, this imagination and speaking voice is very vivid and clear, resulting in the writing being considered alive, although the grammar, spelling, and structure might not be very good. This is because the child is simply showing and telling the story in their own perspective rather than trying to get a good review on what it is they are writing like the college student might

The article “The Poisoned Fish” by Ken Macrorie is about a way of writing called Engfish. Engfish is the way students have been conditioned to write that, in a way, hinders the creativity in their writing. It is when students write exactly what they think their teachers want, in terms of grammar and word choice, and quit writing with their own voice.…

Sea World’s attempt to refute the documentary “Blackfish” was so disappointing. It did not just fail; it crashed and burned. “Blackfish” is a documentary that shows the psychological and physical harm Sea World is doing to their Killer whales by keeping them in a confined space. The Documentary also demonstrates the danger Sea World is putting their trainers in by having them work with their killer whales. In response Sea World published, on their website, an article titled "Truth about Blackfish". The beginning of their article starts out strong making valid arguments that successfully convinces it's readers to entertain and think about the idea that “Blackfish” might indeed be manipulative propaganda. Their statement…

Reading is my life. It’s my escape from the world around me. I love getting lost in a story about monsters and myths, or a Cinderella gone wrong. If I didn’t draw as much as I did, I’d probably be the anti-social bookworm in the back, like in all those cliche teenage love stories. It’s actually quite surprising to see how many people dislike books, there’s nothing wrong with a little reading every once and awhile. But who am I to judge? I wasn’t a very big reader myself until maybe two years ago. Of course, that leads to the first reason why I enjoy reading so much.…

Being exposed to different kinds of poetry from childhood, I grew fond of it though now I prefer fictional prose to poetry. As a profoundly sensuous form of creative writing, poetry both challenges my mind and conquers my aesthetic sense with its subtle wording. But specifically because it is a thought provoking and demanding form of writing I do not read poetry often. Therefore, the variety of topics, styles and forms of poems collected in Alehouse Journal 2011 disoriented me completely. However, the poems were carefully selected and united under the common styles, topics, and forms. Dreams was one of such topics. The complex nature of dreams make them one of the most prolific topics in poems.…

As I write this, I have my four year old niece sitting next to me saying, “Wow, you have a lot of drawing on your page!” All I can do is laugh to myself and think that was once me, not knowing the meaning of each word and innocently intrigued by the simple presence of words on a paper. This interest would soon turn into the curiosity to read. Hoping to read as gracefully as my mother when she read bible stories before my twin sister and I would drift off to sleep, I was devastated to find out I didn’t read as well as the other children. In fact, I had to be pulled from my reading class to a remedial class with one on one interaction between the teacher and student. As disappointed as I was then, I’ll…
