The Pros And Cons Of Bob Rae
Canadians should feel fortunate to call themselves Canadians, as they have fundamental freedoms, natural beauty, and a providing government. Bob Rae could not have said it better “We have it all. We have great diversity of people, we have a wonderful land, and we have great possibilities. So all those things combined there's nowhere else I'd rather be.” Born in a 3rd world country with poor social and health infrastructure, as an immigrant it is easy to appreciate the facilities which this great land has. Canada being a 1st world country allows all citizens access to clean water, shelter, and health/education. Many people from around the world do not possess these basic necessities back home due to a variety of factors. Canada is the country …show more content…
People may be homesick, they may have fled crisis, and whatever the reason Canada welcomes you with open arms. This hospitality is found next to nowhere else, because Canada cares. Immigrants and refugees are not always affluent, so when they come to this country quite obviously it would be a struggle initially. Some of these people unfortunately are unable to cope with the change and end up losing all their money, and Canada does not leave them on the streets, in fact Canada spends a portion of its money solely on welfare so that people are not forced to live on the streets. A part of this is that they give you food, water, shelter, and in some cases job opportunity. The welfare system is made so that people can bounce back on their feet and have another opportunity to prove themselves. To further branch on the “welfare system” there are a few sub-categories (listed below this paragraph). Canada also offers free education for its residents. The quality of education is very well known and is nationally accepted. The residents have all the education paid for and are able to learn until grade 12 for free. This means Canada has one of the best governments in terms of providing for its people. Especially considering many countries have poor education and to access higher quality education money has to be spent, meaning less fortunate people would not be properly educated. Canada also provides free health care meaning it is free to go to a doctor. In countries like the United States it costs money to go to the doctor, so people hold off from going to the hospital and their health deteriorates. The Canadian government takes care of its people very well and health care is very important. The government spends a lot of money to have free healthcare available and this is one of the many reasons why this country is great. No other country provides as much to its citizens as Canada

Our stereotypical Canada house is repressing many aspects in how people view Canada as a nation. Canadians believe that they are the founders of ice hockey, making them very proud of the sport which is also a big part on how people perceive Canada. You could think of it as a big family, us Canadians. Some of canada's favourite team are Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks, Ottawa Senators and so on. What all these teams have in common is that they can all cooperate together to perform an honourable game. Whether you like hockey or not, if you live in Canada it is a part of who you are. That is what makes Canada a hockey nation.…

Canada has been through a lot of struggles to become the country it is today. It had specifically had a lot of defining moments in the 20th century. Canada had taken part in a lot of wars and lost many people in the wars they fought. But the wars they fought had defined who they were in a country and how they dealt with it. It showed how they were willing to fight and lessons on what not to do next time.…

The Canadian health care system, although flawed, is privilege. There are only a number of countries that has a similar healthcare system where basic health care needs are covered by the government (i.e. France, Denmark, Germany, UK, etc.), the rest have a privatized health care system where an individual would have to pay for each visit and procedure depending on the amount their insurance covers (i.e. USA, Philippines, etc.).…

To be Canadian means to be able to look around you and only see various different shades of green in the many diverse types of trees. It means your body is pumped with adrenaline when your favourite hockey team comes on to the ice, and it’s that moment when you sing the national anthem proud, with a smile on your face. To be Canadian means to respect others opinions and religions, to accept one another no matter the race, religion, or sexuality of another. Canada has been the most accepting country for a very long time now and our peacekeeping title remains the same. Canada is a nation built on immigration. While for many years, most immigrants were from European countries, the recent waves of immigration often include immigrants from South Asian, sub-Saharan and middle eastern countries. These recent immigrants do not have the same experience than the French, the Irish or the Italian earlier in the twentieth century. The reason for this is that they have a much different culture. In fact, integration is ‘easier’ in a western country is easier when one is christian and caucasian for instance. However, many recent immigrants are muslims, and are non-caucasian. These immigrants and refugees also often come from traditional societies. As a consequence, they come from societies where norms, values and gender…

I believe that Canada is the only country in the world that doesn’t have an identity. Are Canadian government has equal rights to everyone and anyone who enters. A large part of Canada’s identity specifically is diversity, it is so important for a country and communities to be diverse and culturally accepting. Seeing diversity portrayed in media encourage people and small and large communities of people to welcome new cultures and to shares theirs passions, religions, symbols, and foods. This is something that in Canada should be shown and demonstrated more frequently TV shows, ads, commercials, and movies. By showing it in media is making a statement that it is good and it is okay to be diverse; it is alright for different cultures to collaborate and share what they like. Unfortunately this isn’t necessarily shown as much as should be in our Western Culture.…

If a country can be defined by its citizens then the one thing that makes Canada the best country in the world is its people. According to John Buchan, a popular Governor General of Canada (1935-40), immigrant groups should retain their individuality and each make its contribution to the national character; while they cherish their own special loyalties and traditions, they cherish not less that new loyalty and tradition which springs from their union. Immigrants were more than welcome to keep their traditional identity and they shall contribute for the benefit of this country but they also have to respect their new Canadian identity. I am glad that people of Canada are not a society that blends together to form one basic cultural norm based on the dominant culture but instead we have given the right to retain our culture.…

Throughout history, the most common reaction by those who are not in poverty is to blame the poor and that it’s their own fault. There tends to be little sympathy and the poor are often viewed as a burden on society. It may be more difficult for those in advanced countries to understand how it’s possible for one to become poor as there are no perceived barriers to being able to escape poverty. In Canada we generally feel that there are many opportunities for anyone who is willing to get ahead. There is free education for everyone up to high school and there are many post-secondary opportunities to get more advanced skills and training including loans and other government assistance. There is nothing forcing people to live in areas within the country that have high unemployment. This is common among developed countries. The thought is that if people in first world countries work…

    Canadian Identity

The word “Canadian”, was first defined as “British”. The meaning of this word turned into “anti-Americanism” as the history developed (Wood, P.K. 2001)—Canadian identity was completely different from what America’s is, that people in Canada were politer, relatively more passive and they welcome new cultures into the nation (Arrison, S. 1999). This impression, however, has never stopped developing, even faster now as Canadian people came to realize that, beyond those traits which Americans do not have, they have other good characteristics that worth promotions. Personally, I hold that the overall image of Canadian identity needs to be changed, for a fact that an ambiguous national identity may have Canadian people misunderstood as well…
