The sights were just amazing! The hills and mountains along the edge were beautiful, and the water was so blue! Unfortunately, about two hours later, the clouds became grey and we had to go back. On the trip back, Ulf and I had a discussion about whether or not Glacier Bay should be a national park. Ulf’s opinions was that while, yes, it was a gorgeous site and some could argue that it was worth preserving, that people could benefit immensely. Alaskan mountains contain silver, oil, copper, coal, and sometimes gold, which is reason enough to mine an area rich with rare or useful minerals. On the other hand, I completely disagreed with this and viewed Glacier Bay as a globally significant marine and terrestrial wilderness oasis. By the time we got back, we were already debating the different wildlife species that live in Glacier Bay, like bears, humpback whales, sea lions, and over 200 species of birds that were preserved by making Glacier Bay a national park. When I got back to the lodge, I was rather bored and wanted to enjoy myself a bit more on the last day that I was at the park. I read about a scenic flight over the outer coast of Glacier Bay national park and decided that I would enjoy
