I believe there are a number of reasons to why people would rather telecommunicate rather than having to sit in a hot stuffy office all day. They are more able to focus on what needs to be done rather than having to worry about people bothering them all day and looking over their shoulders, they are able to avoid having to do long commutes to and from work which in the long run would save them a ton of money on gas also wear and tear on the car it self. Many companies also offer telecommuting because they believe that it will promote a work/life balance, save on real estate cost in case the job involves having to relocate, and it encourages more productivity and greatly reduces costs due to disruptions.
Its hard to believe but there seems to be less cons and more pros to telecommuting. Some cons to it are that the employees would have less time with their managers, supervisors, and other peers which could cause a major communication roadblock. The other con to it is that managers cant supervise or monitor there employees during the day which in the long run could lead to a loss of productivity.
I believe there are some cases when telework is not needed. For example you have a IT has to work with the hardware installed onsite or who regularly troubleshoots issues at users' desks and may have no choice but to come to the office every single day
Then there are the security issues with everyday requirements and problem which would mean a tech worker would not be able to access or develop certain software, such as financial applications, or any other programs that they may need
