The Protagonist: A Fictional Narrative
Tom wondered for what seemed to be the millionth time why Dectives were required to dress like wall-street bankers or stock analysts. At least that was the expectation in public, however the moment he had the office to himself, he unknotted his tie, slipped off the linen suit jacket, and undid the top button of his shirt, then sat back in his chair, raised his eyes to the ceiling, and tapped the tip of a ballpoint pen against his teeth. That was Tom's usual mode of concentration and contemplation, and so intent was the man's focus on the new case that all else slipped from his mind, even the recollection that he'd texted his wife. Therefore, the sudden familiar sound of her voice, accompanied by the enticing aroma of barbecue, startled him, and he immediately shot upright. The sight of Lila elicited a smile that only widened with the greeting and kiss. "Sorry baby." …show more content…
The Detective was too practical, and dealing with death and grief all day made flirtation and romance even more difficult. However, he did try, and occasionally even succeeded. "Next time I summons you in the middle of the day, I promise, it will be for no other purpose than to cuff you to the desk, and fuck you silly. Exactly what I intend to do tonight." A teasing expression momentarily lit up his features before his demeanour and tone became

The Hero’s Journey is a common template of how a tale/story about a hero will go. It usually involves a hero that goes on a journey/adventure and defeats/solves something and comes home changed/transformed. It was the American scholar Joseph Campbell that introduced this concept. Spiderman is one of many heroes that follow this outline.…

The drainage grates bubbled as huge streams of water rushed down the street and into the ground. Penny, a firefighter, waded through the rising water that was now over a foot deep. She was coming home from a hard day at work, even though there hadn’t been many fires with all this rain, things had still been busy. Penny was a small but strong woman, and was enjoying her first career as a firefighter, but nonetheless was looking forward to relaxing in front of her favorite TV show with her children. Western and nonwestern heroes come from different regions of the world; therefore, have different cultural backgrounds. More specifically, western heroes come from the Greco-Roman or Judeo-Christian traditions. Nonwestern heroes come from other parts of the world that would not associate with these traditions. While these heroes might seem to have little in common when it comes to origin, “The Hero’s Journey” by Joseph Campbell demonstrates that all heroes have “similar patterns” (Campbell). However by examining the non-western hero, Mulan, in “The Ballad of Mulan” demonstrates how this figure is different than the hero outlined in Joseph Campbell’s “The Hero’s Journey” in the following ways, Mulan does not have any kind of “supernatural aid”, “tests that lead to the final showdown”, or a “life-changing experience for her or many others” (Campbell).…

In chapter 4 of Joseph Campbell's "The Hero With A Thousand Faces", The Hero's Journey is divided into different sections that detail the steps that outlined the heroes journey, which starts with the call to adventure. The hero is given a sign that indicates his/her path, leading the hero to journey from their home and begin his/her quest. The protagonist may also be lured or tricked into getting involved in the story. A scene that I disagree on was how Adam handled the situation of getting into the ICU to see how Mia was doing. What Adam did was he and Kim came up with a plan to try and sneak into the ICU by distracting the nurse and security grads. In my opinion what should have been done was since only family members were allowed to visit her Adam could have asked to be watched at all times during the visit by the security grads.A short passage from the book that I found meaningful was when Adam came inside to see Mia; he tried to help her with the decision of staying or leaving. This short passage was significant to me because it led to the development of the theme, love could never be broken apart no matter what the situation is, it will always be there. With the love and support that her boyfriend Adam gave her it made her more…

My mother, sister, and I were driving down Highway 124 on a hot July day when my mom screamed and slammed on the breaks. Fear rushed through our bodies. Outside the car window, a short young African American man was launched into the air. As he came down, a loud boom sounded as his body helplessly rolled off the hood of the faint green Toyota Corolla in front of us. The man lay motionless in the road while we waited for what seemed like hours for the driver to exit the car. His red shirt and gym shorts were ripped. The driver of the opposing car threw the vehicle in reverse in a spasmodic action in an attempt to end the man’s life. The injured man made an effort to crawl onto the Wendy’s sidewalk, forcing his body up on the curb to evade the car. The driver drove up onto the curb and blew its tire, just barely missing the wounded man. Realizing the driver would stop at nothing, my mother drove her white suburban in front of the car, blocking the violent perpetrator from doing any further damage.…
