The Ransom Of Red Chief Irony
The activities I conducted in class today were, I took a quiz on the story "Alter Egos" also I wrote an ACE strategy essay on the same text. Then I took a quiz on "Underwater Whodunit: What's Killing Florida's Elkhorn Coral?" I made a 7 out of 9 on the quiz, so I am kind of disappointed, but it only encourages me to try harder next time. Next, I typed my essay on irony in "The Ransom of Red Chief" and what type of irony it was and what affects it had on the story.

I feel these activities were conducted to help us learn how to find answers to questions in a text and also help us advance our skills in writing.

The court case was about The Ransom Of Red Chief. The teams defended the witnesses such as Red Chief, Sam, Bill. The prosecuting team believed that Bill didn’t get kidnapped by those two kidnappers. The defense team believed that Bill was mentally challenged and Red Chief did harm his kids and abuse the cat. The prosecuting team said that Red Chief was hounded down by those two kidnappers and lured in by some candy that they had hidden. They conjointly believed that they put her in a bag and yielded her into a little shed. The prosecuting team won the case by way of evidence. I believe that the defense team should have won by way of evidence from the trial.…

The following are three essays that I worked on during the semester. Most of it remains the same, while some of my ideas have developed. The only major changes made were redirecting the ideas in the Where is Waldo Now essay. In English 1102 I struggled with a lot, Professor Grant really challenged what I thought I knew about writing. Being that English is my second language, language barriers normally do not reflect in my speech or writing. I felt that this semester really showed me that I still had work to do. Passive voice, comma slices, forming arguments, and grammar are some of the many skills that I worked on during this semester. I attended the Writing Center as often as I could; I also asked questions during office hours. I worked on perfecting these skills in my other classes as well by reading out loud. By exploring these different options my essay grades improved 15 points. Hopefully my portfolio and future papers reflects the time and practice I’ve put into my writing.…

At the beginning of the course we wrote a personal profile, where we introduced ourselves to our classmates and instructor, in it we included some things like the place where we were raised, important influences in our lives, and our dream job. As well, we introduced a topic that we would be interested in structuring and writing an argumentative paper about, I chose the Dakota access pipeline. It was a controversial topic throughout the world and it drew my interest to intellectually challenge the opposing side, along with several other popular debate topics. Unfortunately, I procrastinated throughout the entire course, because writing has never been my strongest suite. I did that because I over thought every single assignment because I was never certain if I was on the right track. Afterwards, we did a “Says Does Analysis” assignment, we had the opportunity to choose an article from the New York Times editorial. We had to determine what the author was trying to do and say, when writing his or her article. Doing this assignment, helped me evaluate my writing more in-depth, and expand upon what I was discussing.…

During the discussion I asked, “Why did Dexter ask Irene to marry him out of false feelings if he knew he still had feelings for Judy?” and, “Was Judy’s situation in the end a result of her behavior in her former life? Did she get what she deserved?” In addition to asking questions I made several statements such as, “The lake was a symbol of Judy and how the lake was where they first met and he was always calm and happy there” and I also talked about how the story was based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s life. In addition to those previous statements I discussed the theme of the story, how dreams do not always come true. I felt as though I responded to other students’ questions well and as often as I could, as long as another student did not beat me to it. I quoted the book by saying “As so frequently would be the case in the future, Dexter was unconsciously dictated to by his winter dreams (942: 119-120).” And discussed how it foreshadowed Dexter’s future choices to have his love for Judy dictate his life. I would rate my preparation for the Socratic circle an 8 because I read and took notes over the story well and had several discussion points highlighted. I would rate my contributions to the conversation in…

This paper is a discussion on my worldview and my personal beliefs about God and creation. I will be contrasting it with a secular writing, the “Ransom of Red Chief” by writer O. Henry. I will discuss how I came to form these views, and defend each of my arguments with examples from the bible and similar writings. A quick summary of what I believe about God, creation, humankind, epistemology and ethics are as follows. I believe God is all powerful and all knowing, and loves his creation enough to sacrifice his son for it. I believe he made people in his image to worship him, and I believe we need a personal relationship with him to be saved. I believe we know things through looking at the bible and the world around us and using basic logic to tie it together. What I believe about ethics is that every person was created in God’s image and the world also created by him, so we must treat both respectfully and as God tells us to in the bible.…

During the past few weeks, the young Red Guard had bring the revolution to the climax. All schools were closed, and students had taken all the streets as the Red Guard. They walked tall as Chairman Mao had told them “ The lower-middle class will lead everything, and everything about the four old has to be destroyed.” The Red Guard destroyed everything about the four olds ( old thinking, old custom, old culture, and old habit.) They walked in the streets, and sang the revolution songs. The buildings around them were old, and some stores had destroyed by the “Builders of the new world” which was the Red Guard. They were posted the da-zi-bao around the streets and buildings. Those da-zi-bao were all talked about destroy the four olds. There were…

Humans are descendents of other animals. I believe that over time animals change to fit the needs of their environments, and that is how after a long span of time humans came to be. Humans could be described as super-domesticated animals because they act like other domesticated animals. Humans are superior because they have more power and are more advanced than the other domesticated animals.…

    3. Journal Entry: My main task this week has been pretty fun for me. My project has been to revamp newspaper clippings that have Fort Valley sports references in them. Someone in PR finds every newspaper or magazine that Fort Valley is ever referenced in and clips these articles out to put in a large display book. My job is to scan these articles and then revamp them so they appear to be a higher quality. I get rid of the grey in the paper and try to liven up the color in the images. This way, when someone is browsing through all of Fort Valley accomplishments, they look more appealing. This…

the assignment was to write a second person point of view informative on how to become any occupation of our choice (Naturally I chose the occupation astronaut, a occupation I knew practically nothing on beyond what I could pick up from Sandra Bullock and George Clooney). The essay was difficult to write, it challenged the entirety of my knowledge of grammar. I persevered and wrote a great paper I was proud of. In that class I learned more than how to better my writing but how to appreciate writing and the power it has. It was that class that made me realize the pen truly is mightier than the sword, as lame as that sounds.…

Essay writing was a major part of the class. We wrote essay on race and ethnicity, gay matters, language technique essays. Each essay taught us about a different style or form of writing. Comparison and contrast essays taught us how to write an essay comparing two similar things. This type of essay was my favorite to write. In my essay I compared the careers of Lebron James and Kobe Bryant. The most difficult essay for me to write was the argument essay in which we were to defend a point using strong argument skills. For my argument essay I supported the argument that rap music is music of resistance. I can honestly say my essay skills have improved tremendously over the course of this year thanks to the many skills learned in this class.…
