Many short stories have been written throughout time. Many are just for entertainment, but many of them are for teaching a lesson. Little Red Riding Hood was written partly to teach a lesson. In France, a girl that loses her virginity is said to have “seen a wolf.” That is what this story is based on. Little Red Riding Hood is about a little girl that runs in to a wolf in the forest as she is on her way to her grandmother’s house. Her grandmother was ill and her mother baked some food to make her feel better, in which Little Red Riding Hood was taking to her grandmother. When she met the wolf, the wolf was thinking he did not want to attack the girl because there were workers in the area and he did not want there to be any witnesses. Therefore, the wolf gained the trust of the little girl in just a short time so he can learn where the grandmother lived. The little girl, being naïve, gave the location of her grandmother’s house to the wolf. The end result was the death of the grandmother and the little girl because the wolf ate both of them.…

The setting is black with the red background which gives a dark and ominous feel. Also, there is a house on the right side but a forest on the left. You don’t know if it takes place at the house or the forest. Forests are often used in horror films as the location for where death happens. Also in literary works trees or forests can be a symbol of sin or death. For example the tree in the story of Adam and Eve or in the Scarlet Letter. The house shown also gives has an ominous feel, it is dark and doesn’t really have any distinct…

The glistening, white snow fell slowly to the ground outside the window. The distinct shapes of the snowflakes shown; the light from the street lamp seeping through the cracks. The mumble of the heater in the corner of the room; the faint sound of the blood dripping onto the floor were the only sounds. He lay there; motionless. The thuds were entering the silent room once again. The creaking of the wooden floor grew louder and louder. Still the light of the street lamp shone through the window and onto the far wall. The nasty figure walked into the murky room. Only its shadow appeared on the far wall behind it. The boy in the bed was Eli. His tiny eight year old body was red with his own blood. Then……

The main narrator tells the story from a third person point of view. Everything that is known is told from an all knowing voice. While reading the story Ray Bradbury makes it easy to understand that the narrator is more than the talking house. From a part in the story “It sniffed the air and scratched the kitchen door. Behind the door, the stove was making pancakes which filled the house with a rich baked odor and the scent of maple syrup. The dog frothed at the mouth, lying at the door, sniffing, its eyes turned to fire.” (Bradbury 2)This part is interesting because of the use of detail in the senses. The narrator talks to us through his senses and describes the surroundings very vividly. This narrator also gives us certain descriptions that only a person outside of the house could tell us, and since there is no one left to tell us what is happening it must be from the view of a third person…

In this particular task wind blows upon the appearance of a ghost with scary sounds being heard. The viewer of the film becomes more emotional and scary as they observe the occurrence of these horror events. The case seems different to a reader because the impact might be lower as it is rated according to the ability of the reader to hallucinate on such events. A reader will as well assume a blockage of mirrors at the moment when the girl is trapped by the ghost in the other world unlike the physical blinding observed in the film. This provides a great difference between the film presentations on a novel outline with a clear proof that the visional event provide a better copy of the supernatural tracks heard with proper view on how the characters react upon…

In Albert Camus' novel, The Stranger, Meursault represents an existentialist character. Most may believe him to be immoral, and in some cases they are almost correct. Contrary to that belief, just because Meursault is an emotionless silhouette of a man doesn't mean he is immoral or evil. One cannot condemn him for being this way because he is simply misunderstood. Meursault does not make moral or immoral decisions, he is just completely indifferent to the matter. Readers are able to sympathize with this character because society condemns him and he is thought of as an evil person due to his lack of emotion. He was unable to experience love and he missed out on some of the finer feelings in life…

Albert Camus’ The Stranger revolves around an ordinary man, Mersault, living in French Algiers in the 1940s. Narrated in first person point of view through Mersault’s eyes, the novel is about his life and his physical and emotional relationships around him. Beginning with the death of Mersault’s mother, the novel offers an existential point of view on life and is an exemplar of Camus’ philosophy of the absurd. Mersault’s character is initially nihilist and this novel is a narrative of how Mersault finds meaning in his life.…

“The Last Night,” by Ray Bradbury, is about the world ending, and what the characters do with their last hours alive. This text has many different interpretations. Some say that the story’s message is about the calm acceptance of death, others say that it is their complacency that brings about the end of the world. I feel that this story is about the complacency of the character’s lives - how the characters are not shocked by impending doom and go on with their mechanized routine.…

In ‘The Signalman’, the story of the haunting of the “appearance” makes the signalman feel very responsible of the two deaths which occurs after seeing the ghost and listening to its warnings. The first death that happens is when the signalman sees the “appearance” and listens to his warning. The dead and injured were brought over the spot were it stood on. The second death happens to a young and beautiful lady. After stopping the train they find her dead in the cabin. It is a very strange and sudden death, which makes me feel eerie and afraid, more than just knowing someone died, how this person dies and who did it. The most mysterious death is when the narrator went in the morning to the signalman’s box and finds him dead, under the “danger light” peacefully. That is what I like, it is very mysterious and don’t know who did it all, not like in ‘The Red Room’ the deaths were not convincing to me. In ‘The Red Room’ there are two pervious stories about staying in ‘The Red Room’. The first story is that a young duke stayed in the room then came out running, opened the door and “fallen headlong” down the stairs. It happens because he wants to conquer the “ghostly tradition” of the palace. The second story is that a “timid” wife who…
