In the film “Women in the world: Erin Ganju”, Erin, the Co founder and CEO of the company Room to read, speaks about how her company is based on the idea that every child, no matter where they are born, should have great education in their own community. Room to read works in 10 countries in Asia and Africa and have already established 13,000 libraries in schools. They also print books in the children’s local languages. Erin speaks about how she has witnessed the children dash to the library and picks books up to read them to each other. Some of these issues in the film are important because there are so many communities that have huge needs, and according to “The Responsibility Project” (2012), “education brings hope. It would be a better world if every child grew up empowered, educated, and able to be a fully productive citizen and help create the world that everyone wants to live in”. It is important to recognize an issue and to act upon it, as hoe Erin Ganju did. Erin travels 1/3 of her time to better educate these children. At times, she brings her daughter along so that her daughter can be involved with the company, as well. Erin is doing an amazing job at finding the issue and doing something about it. External social pressure has an important role in influencing ethics, especially the company room to read, it is a smaller business and they need to give solid deliberation to social expectations in the areas of general community involvement and environmental responsibility. These issues might be relevant to organizational and personal decisions because social media can and will find a way to bash on any business or person who is trying to make a difference.
