The Ripaibodon: A Short Story
The Ripaibodon clambered out of the murky water. It lunged forward towards a hotdog stand and jumped through the cart. I ran up and stabbed it in one eye with my knife. It retreated back to the water. Suddenly a pig came running out of some nearby trees. It was followed by a lone velociraptor-blue. The pig ran through a small door. Blue put her nose high in the air. She smelled the Ripaibodon. She walked nose to the ground over to the water. The fifty foot Ripaibodon charged and grabbed Blue. She called for help. Out of nowhere an adult Tyrannosaurus rex came running out of the forest. It bit down on the Ripaibodon's already injured head. The Ripaibodon snarled and twisted around out of the grasp of the short armed T Rex. Twenty nine more …show more content…
My friend happened to be inside the building. I talked to him about the problem and he ran into another building. He soon came back with a small dinosaur following him. It was a new species he invented. He called it an indoraptor. It was part Indominus Rex and part Utahraptor. He trained it in past years to hunt and kill prey twenty times its size. At 5 feet long it could kill a blue whale. The indoraptor smelled the Ripaibodons. There were twenty seven left still fighting. I asked what Ripaibodons were. He said they are part red bellied piranha, part piraiba- a huge man swallowing Amazon killer fish, and part dimetrodon- a sailed back lizard. The indoraptor killed off another six while we were talking. Eventually there were only two left. The original and a seventy foot alpha male. The injured Ripaibodon lunged at me and I pulled out my knife. It landed with the knife in its good eye. The alpha bit down on the T Rex's head. The T Rex growled and Blue jumped on the alpha's back. The indoraptor clawed at it. It wasn't enough. The T Rex escaped the grasp and nailed the Ripaibodon in the gut. Then the T Rex bit its neck and tossed it into a brick wall. It fell

Up early, the surface of the water was like glass, I unloaded the fly rod and headed back to the water with the dogs. Knowing that the prolific Utah Chub was a major food source in the reservoir, I tied a bunch of white and gold streamers in the weeks leading up to departure. I tied one on and made a couple casts, still targeting stumps and their roots. Just as the fly neared shore, a cutthroat shot out from under the stump and grabbed my fly. Unfortunately, it was a short lived flight as the fish shook its head and gained its freedom.…

After a short morning of waking up extremely early we realized it was finally time we got to see the slaughterhouse! Curren and I were pumped and once again could not stop thinking about what’d it be like seeing a moray eel. Once we got in the car it was about a 15-minute drive. It felt like it took 5 minutes because everywhere we looked you could see something fascinating. When we finally arrived we witnessed a jungle. It was full of bright green plants and large palm trees and coconut trees. As we walked through the sweaty forest we came upon something odd. We found a militia of jungle chickens! There was a pack of about 20 or so. They were all running around forging for food. Once we strolled past the squawking chickens we felt the humid get heavier. We knew we were close to the water. Soon we confronted a river that lead right to the…

It is this separation from the rest of the world that causes them to question their identity and existence. Zakharieva discusses how the monster in Branagh’s film questions who he is, if he has a soul. While in Jurassic World it is said that the dinosaur is contemplating her own existence and figuring out where she fits in the food chain. Both monster and dinosaur are trying to find their place in society and the world, but react violently. The destruction caused by these creatures turns them evil in the eyes of the audience and other characters. As explained in Zakharieva’s essay, the 1994 monster’s violent acts are cruel and unmotivated; mirroring this is the 2015 film’s comment from Owen Grady that the Indominus Rex is killing for sport. Our fear of the unknown, the unreasoned, the unexplainable is expressed through the reaction to the unprovoked murders in both films. In the novel Shelley explains the monster’s reasoning and thought process behind his killings while the 1994 film, as Zakharieva examines, shows his violence as spontaneous and cruel. Branagh’s and Trevorrow’s films are more frightening because we fear the unexplained, like the reason behind the creatures’…

Rusty Van Wert and Caleb Snow went over to a terrarium. Rusty reached into the cage to grab and hold a non-venomous yellowbelly water snake, which had been caught in the wild and identified by his biology teacher. His eyes were lit up with joy to be holding this snake. He had a very big smile on his face and could not appear to be any happier in that moment. The snake was then handed off to Caleb, who had never held a snake before. Caleb squeezed the snake pretty hard which made it start squirming and twisting and just going crazy. Caleb’s eyes showed fear. His whole body was frantically trying to control this 2.5 foot long snake and get it back into the cage. Sweat started to run down his cheeks and drip onto his shirt. He was very nervous and still trying to put the snake back into the cage when he got bit. He yanked his arm away very quickly and immediately let go of the snake.…
