Orzel explains in his book that after you look at what you have you think about what you can do to move on to what you want to achieve. In the section of thinking on page 89 Orzel talks about how there are many different ways of organizing something such as alphabetic, numeric, and even autobiographical. All ways of organizing are valid as long as you give a reason in why you did that. This is the same in photography because while some photographers would say a photo is underexposed (not bright enough) others would argue it helps the aesthetic of the picture. There are different ways to take a picture, there is no one way to take a picture. You can adjust a pictures brightness by changing how fast the picture is taken or how much light is let into the lens. Both have benefits and drawbacks.
