The second major achievement was the expansion of the South and North’s economy, where the reconstruction brought many opportunities for the South and North, as it is based on the ideology of collaboration in order to make a better place. Creation of the 13th amendment, 14th amendment and 15th amendment played a big role in reconstruction. The 13th amendment was the first amendment among those three reconstruction amendment which “officially outlawed slavery”, the 14th amendment granted citizenship to anyone who is born in the United States, which is commonly known these days. This amendment helped in overruling many supreme court cases like Dred Scott vs. SanFord. This disabled state and local governments from depriving persons life, property or liberty. On top of that, it also granted equal protection under the law to all people within the states jurisdiction. The creation of the Klu Klux Klan was one of the limitation, which was created by six confederate Army veterans. Klu Klux Klan rapidly spread throughout the south, they used threats and violence to restore the dominance of white like in the old times. For that to happen, the target was obviously the freedman and their allies, they tried to achieve their goals by murdering, beating or through verbal offensive messages. The government could not handle them, and they continued to kill blacks everyday through different means like set houses on fire so that people inside it catch on fire and die. Poverty was indeed not a surprise but greatly devastated during the reconstruction. After the war, more than half of the south was left in ruins, which left people jobless, homeless that includes no supplies. On top of that, southern farmers lost their land and their slaves are free now, which indirectly trapped everyone into a poverty cycle. Also, blacks were less likely hired in a job compared to the whites, this caused the freed slaves to starve till death. Next problem was the black codes, these laws limited blacks civil liberties and human rights. These were active at the beginning of the Reconstruction, where the blacks were still restricted to live a life like a freedman could live.
