My first category is sexism in sports. Women's skills in sports media are downplayed and they are thought to be less skilled than men. "The author argues the lack of media coverage that females get in the world of professional sports, as she states in “Female athletes are underrepresented by the media" (Godinez). Many more articles and stories can be found about the ability of male athletes and there are a lot more photographs taken of male athletes. Coverage for women can usually be found highlighting their beauty instead of how well they can play. Women also face sexism in the workplace. Besides usually facing more responsibility and sometimes, sexual harassment they get paid less than their male counterpart. Women were made to believe they were inferior to men and that doing chores and caring for children was expected of them when they became grown ups. "In most preindustrial societies, for example, domestic chores were relegated to women, leaving "heavier" labor such as hunting and plowing to men" (Women's History in America). It was long believed that women were considered weaker than men and unable to perform heavy labor.
