The Role Of The Rat Race In College

Part of a student’s development in college is how they stay involved while they are away from home, but also learn how to balance a variety of activities. One of the main events that would take place each day at the school following the war was the creation of the Rat Races. The Rat races were an idea created by students to bring them together in a closer place after the war. The Rat Race was created by a committee of students who would meet with deans and officers to set up the rules and regulations for what would take place and when. (cite snapper) The representatives of Robert Dorn and Ben Jenkins who would speak on behalf of the students (cite) Rat Races were a dance all daytime students attended at noon for the whole school that took
place each day. It was a way for males and females to get together and forget about the worries of school for a short period of time. The hours of the races would be on week days 12-1 and 6:30-7:30, with rules that were made to be followed. (cite) Outside the Rat races, students had the oppournity to join clubs that would fit their interest either academically or as a hobby with something such as music. The students would credit what made the University so enjoyable was the relationships they created with their fellow students. (cite) Students were able to create not just relationships in clubs, but also on a personal level, especially with the practice of religion.
