The Role Of White Witches In The Elizabethan Era

“White” witches and apothecaries handed out homemade remedies that we once trusted. Witches have been a belief throughout history. When they were here, they were blamed for the black plague, death, illness, and bad crops. In the Elizabethan Era, witches were seen as an explanation to the unexplainable. Sometimes witches were seen as good, by making remedies that were believed to heal us. However, in 1591 when King James I of Scotland was king the witches were supposedly behind the plot to murder him. The attempted murder led King James I to his book Daemonologie, the study of persecution and punishment of witches. The book changed the view of witches, and the good witches were all gone.
