Didi Kirsten Tatlow’s article, “The ‘Saddest’ Polar Bear Lives in a Mall in China” criticizes a “disturbing trend in China” that refers to “exhibiting wild animals in malls to attract customers” (Tatlow, 2016). Some of the examples the article gives are a polar bear living at the Grandview Mall in Guangzhou, an elephant that was used to advertise and cell phones on the outskirts of Beijing, and sea lions used for customer entertainment in another mall (Tatlow, 2016).
