The Scarlet Ibis Pride Analysis
The Scarlet Ibis, a story about a boy and his younger brother Doodle. Brother’s pride is so big that he gets ashamed of how his brother Doodle cannot walk and teaches him how to walk for his own needs not Doodle’s. Doodle learns and can walk pretty good goes to show his parents on the morning of his birthday and they are proud of how he can walk and how brother had helped him but brother can dose not tell them because he is ashamed of his pride. Brother expects so much out of Doodle that it push Doodle to the limit.
Brother’s pride made him embarrassed of his brother Doodle because he could not walk so he helps him learn. Brother does not like that Doodle cannot walk at five years old. Brother wants a brother that can walk and play with

If you read this story, you will discover that leading up to Doodles death, all of these words are present. The Scarlet Ibis starts out with Brother’s (the narrator) baby brother being born.     Brother had motivation for the actions he made regarding Doodle. Having a brother, someone play and run around with, was a thought that had excited him for some time, but he got a brother who would probably never be able to do these things with him. Brother remembered, “It was bad enough having an invalid brother, but having one who was possibly not all there was unbearable, so I began to make plans to kill him by smothering him with a pillow,” (190). This was unbearable for Brother because it would be too demeaning to have a mentally challenged brother. Even though Doodle ended up being “all there”, he was still very high maintenance. Although Doodle showed no signs of walking, he still wanted to be with his brother all the time.
