4th Period Facebook and twitter are reaching out to their users. Social networks are popular with teens, and teens feel more comfortable posting their pain than going into a counselor’s office. Facebook contacted Forefront last summer, the social network meet with Davis and her colleagues, they discussed ways on how social networks can better reach out to young people Jennifer Stuber, and an executive director at Forefront said “It's pretty exciting what they're trying to do”. There are a few tragic warning signs that pop up on social media. Pew Internet Research Project says that 80% of teens use social media regularly, and more than 22% log on at least 10 times a day. Gwenn Schurgin O'Keeffe and Kathleen Clarke-Pearson says “large part of this generation's social and emotional development is occurring while on the Internet. They also said “Parents often lack a basic understanding that kids' online lives are an extension of their offline lives." This is the reason why social networks like Facebook and twitter have emerged as the new meeting place for teenagers. Though people may not, Facebook relies on its clients to report any troubling content by other people. Because Facebook has 1.3 billion users, I would be difficult to monitor messages any other way. When a notice is reported for potential danger, a team of analysts analyze the wording of a status update or post, and if it is deemed serious, it sends a message offering help, and the person will see it the next time they log on.
