The Spread Of Christianity
The Spread of Christianity promoted division because of all the killing and disagreement. if the spread of Christianity was more peaceful than it would definitely be unifying. But it most certainly was not. Many many christians were killed trying to spread christianity. After Jesus died, one of his disciples, Peter, gave the first Christian sermon. When peter gave his sermon, three thousand people joined Christianity. The religion reached all the way to Rome. Some Roman emperors were angry because the Christians refused to worship Roman gods. The Romans persecuted both Christians and Jews. In 70 C.E, the Romans destroyed Jerusalem. (Meredith 54)This caused division because of Christianity. People did not all believe in the Roman Gods or
the Gods the government wanted them to worship. Another division was when the Protestants split into three churches. Baptist, Methodist, and Lutheran. They are all a form of Christianity but were divided into three different churches, which would definitely be a some form of division. The Great Schism was a major split between Christianity. The Great Schism was when the two churches split into the Eastern Church and the Western Church. The Eastern church was the Orthodox Church and the Western church was the Eastern church was Roman Catholic. The head of the Church in Constantinople and the head of the Church in Rome had an argument and this led to the major split. (Meredith 54) Yet, another, division. All of these reasons indicate that Christianity promoted division. Even though Christianity also created unity and togetherness, especially because it is the largest religion in the world, there are more reasons why Christianity caused division.
