The “Tell Tale Heart” involved the narrator (the main character) to murder an old man because of the look of his eye. The narrator had a conflict that he could not push through, and developed a character trait as weak. The narrator went through with the idea of killing the old man to get completely rid of the look of his eye and was arrested at the end of the story. This shows that the narrator was defeated by the conflict (person vs person) and got caught and arrested with the crime that he undertook. In addition, the short story “Masque of the red death” had a setting where scarlet fever was the main conflict. In effect of this the a prince decided to create a kingdom with walls to avoid scarlet fever. The story starts out with the prince throwing a ball which quickly gets ruined by the red death (scarlet fever) getting into the ball, and soon killing everyone. All of the characters in the short story were defeated by the conflict (Person vs nature) and cracked under pressure. The prince was not able to push through with the disease, and was defeated. The main characters Hazel Grace, and Augustus Waters both suffered from cancer. They met at a support group that helps young cancer patients. Hazel was depressed before she met Augustus and did not have much friends. Once both of the main character met each other they were both happy, and wanted to keep persevering through their life. However, by the end of the story Augustus Waters lost the battle to cancer. Although, One might say that he was defeated by his cancer, but the truth is Augustus was happier then he ever was while he had cancer, and he was able to travel to another country with his bone cancer. He might of done more than most have ever done without cancer, and he tried to push through. In relation, he did not crack under pressure, and he was optimistic equally to Hazel. Based on the information, Hazel did survive her cancer, and was able to push through her cancer. Overall, although Augustus dies at the end of the story; he was still able to experience so much throughout his life. He was happier then he ever was by the end of his life, and Hazel was able to keep pushing through her disease towards the end of the
