In the novel, Nothing But The Truth, by Avi, a colossal amount of text types are utilized. When identifying how the texts types that the author uses in Nothing But the Truth, expand and enhance the novel for the reader, one can see that text types allow the reader to use the text-to-self method, it helps the author send a message, and it allows the reader to use the text-to-world method. The text-to-self method is simply a way that a reader relates a part of what they read to themselves. Throughout the novel, numerous diary entries from the main character have been used and since personal diary/journal writing is known, any person reading this book could connect with the use of diaries. As conspicuous as it may be, oftentimes, a book will have
a purposeful message or meaning to it. Characters open up a little more in diaries and letters and a reader could interpret what they have learned from their actions. Ultimately, the method text-to-world can be defined as the comparison between a reading and one’s life experience.
