The Undercover Parent Summary
Keeping your kids safe In the article “The Undercover Parent”, Coben explains why parents should monitor their kids to keep them safe. Coben’s arguments are very detailed, he lists the reasons why parents should or should not monitor their kids. I believe that Coben’s argument about monitoring their kids is right.
Coben argues that there are many pedophiles on the internet with a fake identity communicating with many teens (Coben 1). Coben also talks about many teens being cyber bullied and committing suicide(Coben 1). These two pieces of evidence frighten me because if you don't know what is going on with your child you never know what could happen to them.

    However, Coben borders on paranoia. He writes about kids who have been taken advantage of and preyed upon via the internet. This is indeed a real problem, but it is not as common a problem as Coben makes it out to be. Coben implies that if one does not monitor everything a child does, they will immediately fall into the clutches of an online predator. That is a possibility, but it is not going to happen simply because a parent was not monitoring their child. He seems to think that kids can in no way handle themselves.
