Essay The poem “To the virgins, to make much of time” was written in 1648 by the author Robert Herrick who was born in august 1951 and buried in 1674. The poem is formed by 4 stanzas, which contains 4 verses in each one of them. There is rhyme in the poem and the scheme is formed after the “abab” principle. That means that the 1st line rhymes with the 3rd, and the 2nd rhymes with the 4th. The poem is about, as the title says, that the virgins have to make much of time. First stanza is about seizing the day. Live every day to the fullest, because even if you are smiling today you may be dying tomorrow. The second stanza is also about the time. The longer you are in your life the wiser and smarter you will get, but you will also get closer to dying. First stanza is about using your time as best as you can. Because some day, your time is over and it will be too late to achieve anything.
Second stanza is similar, about the time running out. But it is a figurative language on human’s lives. The farther you go in life, the more clever and more you know about things. But you will at the same time, get further to death.
Third stanza is about opening your eyes. It tells that when you are young and your blood is pumping fast in the pious body, your chances of experience things and do things that you want to do, are bigger.
The fourth stanza encourages humans not to be waiting for opportunities, but to seize them. Because have you lost your time in the spot light, the light will never shine on you again. First stanza is about using your time as best as you can. Because some day, your time is over and it will be too late to achieve anything.
