The War-Personal Narrative
Gun in hand; I took a step backwards from the line of fie. Breathing heavily, I knelt down to try and catch my breath from running. A loud noise exploded in my ears leaving a ringing noise that left me deaf. The man next to me got knocked to the ground from the impact. I looked up, still with ringing ears, trying to catch something that would make sense of this. People around me opened their mouths to scream, but nothing came out.
Fire rose in the distance. The heat smacked against my black army jacket as I sat in the dirt.
My best friend grabbed at my arm trying to lift me to my feet. I just stared at him. He appeared to be screaming something at me, but his voice faded in and out and I couldn’t make out the words. I stared blankly at him.

My helmet clanged against my chin as my friend pulled me farther away.
“Did you know,” The man leans back on the wall and smiles brightly and calmly at me bringing me back from my vision. My eyes follow his pen as he moves it back and forth with his thumb and forefiger, “this was the hardest war we had to face?” I shake my head no, when I mean yes.
He just smiles and gets off the wall. We begin to move again.
A noise zipped past my ear and I turned to see my friend stumble to the ground. “Tyler!” I yelled. My hearing appeared along with all the deadly screams from the villagers nearby. More fie appeared and I dragged him to his feet. He fell limp back in the dirt shortly after I got him walking. He began to cough, causing dirt to jump off and on his face. “Get to …”
“They are going to love you here,” Tyler fades and I’m walking with the manager once again. I watch as his pen moves while he talks on and on.
I fade back into the conversation. “It may seem hard, but a strong young man like you can handle a little weight.”
He turns to me and his smile slowly disappears. “I need to use your restroom,” I state and begin to move back up the hall we

This popping noise filed my mind as
I continued running. I wasn’t going to turn back around to watch another one of my men die out there. The target village was in front of me, but I just couldn’t reach it. A large wave of fie appeared blocking my path. I stumbled backwards on my back and lay there for a moment moaning in pain.
My figers were burning and the tip of the bone was in my sight. I screamed as the heat sizzled on my pale skin.
My body hits a rack in the store and I catch myself. It begins to topple over, but I grab it just in time. Come on Nate, keep your head together.
The shelf f nally stays and I move more quickly to the restroom doors.
I called out names of the soldiers that I knew worked in the village. It was nothing but rubble.
It wasn’t possible that they would be alive, but I didn’t want to think about that. My feet scraped across the dirt as I got closer. A gun sat at my feet and I kicked it aside and tried to forget any thoughts that came to my head. I maneuvered around the destroyed houses to get to the only one standing thinking that my troop had retreated to the village.
“Guys,” I called pushing open a door with the cloth on my burned f nger tips. The door gently fell to the ground and created a cloud of dust.

It’s fourth and nineteen, Tampa Bay’s special teams unit comes on, trying to pin Carolina deep in their own territory. “Hike!” It’s a fake! Tampa Bay’s punter drops back. He finds a double covered, third string running back streaking down the field. He throws the ball as hard as he can. The ball travels a total of three yards before an oncoming Julius Peppers snags it out of the air. “Interception! He’s at the thirty. The twenty. The ten. He could go all the way! Touchdown!” This was the play that capped off my brothers 56-0 beat-down of me in our Blackfoot cousins Madden tournament. Taking a moment to comprehend what had just happened, I stared at the screen in disbelief. The entire ensuing minute was madness. “You cheated!”, “That would…

The next morning, I was to report to Logistics and Strategy. People were all over this place. Seaman lined the walls with headsets on and screens in front of them. They used their fingers to tap the screens and then shout out coordinates. I walked down the row of officers scrutinizing interactive pixel maps. They had the ability to visualize the ships and planes in real time with holographic symbols. I passed them and walked up some steps to a clear glass room. TOO THIN, Fernando, Chad, Mallory, and five Admirals were there. One Admiral for each permanent coalition country. There were also a line of officers outside the room, waiting for orders.…

I am a “boot” adjusting to my new life in kilo company, and corporal has recently returned from a nasty deployment in iraq. He says that he is my father and that he knows what’s best. he kicks sand at me while i am timed to see how fast i can pick up all the yellow cigarette butts he dumped on the floor to “fix” my attention to detail and remind me of my ignorance, as he yells, “you are going to war soon, and I won’t be there to babysit you!” During the deployment workups in the states, we spent weeks patrolling, looking for something that we knew wasn’t real. Digging into defensive positions and waiting the night out for an enemy we knew would never come. Spending rainy nights in muddy holes, fearing what our leaders might do to us if we fell asleep. Firing machine guns, shooting rifles and launching grenades at little green targets…. All of it was just training ops.…

The Civil War legacy still has an impact on Americans today. Today, most Americans look at the Civil War in an awe-inspired perspective. People try to skip over the blood and ugliness that resulted because of it, and instead try to focus on the courage and heroic deeds that soldiers performed. Many today are more likely to view the war as a fight for black freedom instead of for state’s rights, which is what it had previously been known for. The South still seems proud of the Confederate flag, even though it is the cause of a lot of controversy. Some people view it as part of their heritage. Certain topics of the Civil War are still well-known throughout society. Abraham Lincoln, the Gettysburg Address, and the Emancipation proclamation are all examples of what people associate with the Civil War. People try to remember iconic people and images like these, instead of the blood, gore, and hate that took place.…

My army career was right on track. I had been in the 3 years at this point, coming up on 4, and already had completed air assault school, been awarded my expert infantry badge, and had one 15 month deployment under my belt. I was assigned to the scout platoon sniper section and was waiting for a sniper school packet to get final approval from the company commander. I had been studying for the sergeant promotion board for months. I knew that study guide like the back of my hand, I knew whatever question I was asked by the Command Sergeant Major I would have an answer for. I went to the promotion board that morning and blew it out of the water. My dress uniform was perfect. No one was able to find a single deficiency. The Soldiers Creed and the…

I remember the first time I saw Gene. I had just arrived in South Carolina after moving from New Jersey when my dad was offered a promotion. It was a rainy day, I spent most of it driving, trying to figure out my way around town. For lunch, I stopped at some sort of pub that’s been closed down for years now. When I walked in, it was completely empty except for one boy sitting at the counter all alone. I sat on a barstool, a few down from the boy and ordered a cheeseburger. Trying to remember which road I took to get there, I realized I had no idea how to get back home and the boy spoke.…

Darkness has fallen upon the motionless summer evening in Savannah, Georgia. A tree line forming a wall forty feet in height overshadows my powder blue sedan on both sides of the road. The music blares my favorite tunes as I coast the dimly lit road; feeling a gentle breeze from the air conditioner blowing against my anterior. At this very instant, all of my concerns have been repressed. Free to move about the city without a care in this world. A streetlamp shining through the tree line briefly interrupts my calm composure. As this spectacle gives direction to my train of thought to nearly 7,000 miles away, revisiting the war zone that has recently made an impact upon me.…

Back then the Menace of Destruction or mostly known as the MOD gangs society was extremely active within the criminal society such as obtaining illegal drugs, weapons, and involvement in violent gang wars against rival groups. He did lot of bad stuff such as stealing, beating up people, and using illegal drugs. He told a story of how he and others members of MOD would drug people they don't like, beat them and then throw their body on the street.…

Life has been better than ever lately with it being just ten years since the war that has brought our nation to its independence. Although the war had been terrifying and scared most it was all worth it for the greatness it has brought to our country. After the enormous death toll inflicted after the war I could not even imagine it to get any worse until politics started to fluctuate the way it did. Then in 1921 I was elected the minister of justice by Arthur Meighen who I was sure disliked me but obviously seen past it to recognize my intelligence and…
