Personal Narrative: Life During The Revolutionary War
I have missed you all so much. It has been sometime since I have been able to write to you. I am safe and everything is well. Josh and I have settled in a cottage at the top of one of the many hills in Boston with our two kids, Noah and Paige.
The soil, however is not fertile at all. The garden only produces enough food for our small family of four so trade is imperative. The church here is only of the Puritan faith, any other religion is considered obsolete. As I’m sure you have heard, Britain has placed taxes on the colonists in order to pay for the French and Indian War. The Tea Act was passed on December 16 and on that night colonists dressed as Native Americans boarded English ships and dumped all of the taxed tea into Boston Harbor.

Their economy was disrupted immensely and many outlying towns that brought many trade goods from the natives woodlands were destroyed. Luckily for the Puritans their organized government and productivity and relatively low death rate, they soon replaced many of their losses. But their success brought them unwanted attention from the British royal government. For the colonists of New England, this is a bittersweet situation, before the war they never received any attention from the motherland at all, it was considered just to be an English outpost ; Now the British seek to exploit the material goods and profit for their authorities own gains after their victory against the natives. An example of their intrusion into New England would be the establishment of the Anglican church in Boston, Massachusetts in 1684. This would formally end the Puritans religious monopoly they had in New England and allow more loyal English men to have connections and power to Britain through the Anglican…

I was born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 27, 1722. At a young age, I studied religion and law at Harvard University where I discovered my famous admiration for politics. After achieving my master’s degree 1743, focusing heavily on politics, I became indecisive with my path of career choice. Soon after, I began writing for The Independent Advertiser, a radical newspaper, where I could express my opinions about British rule anonymously. Unfortunately, the newspaper had little success due to the lack of following amongst the mass of citizens. Nevertheless, I was beginning to be a “visible popular leader who would spend a great deal of time in the public eye agitating for resistance (Kindig, 1995).”…

The next morning, I was to report to Logistics and Strategy. People were all over this place. Seaman lined the walls with headsets on and screens in front of them. They used their fingers to tap the screens and then shout out coordinates. I walked down the row of officers scrutinizing interactive pixel maps. They had the ability to visualize the ships and planes in real time with holographic symbols. I passed them and walked up some steps to a clear glass room. TOO THIN, Fernando, Chad, Mallory, and five Admirals were there. One Admiral for each permanent coalition country. There were also a line of officers outside the room, waiting for orders.…

Pow! Right smack in my forehead crushing my skull. The metal baseball bat knocked in my skull. It was a warm sunny day in the middle of the summer. Joey, my brother, was hitting tennis balls over my house. Little 10 year old me was playing in the yard and my brother purposely pushed me far away so he wouldn’t hit me. Oh how I was a stupid little kid. I was intrigued by what he was doing so I started wandering over to like how not knowing little kids do. As I approached my brother he was so focused on himself that he did not see me. When I finally reached him he had just set up to hit another ball. He hits the ball, but on his back rotation, the bat makes contact with my head. I fell hard on the pavement. Before I went unconscious I heard my…

First off, trip to Vietnam was truly a blessing. I did not expect so much of the trip until the first day I arrived Vietnam. On my first day, I got an opportunity to meet many great people who were selfless; those who cared more about others rather than themselves. It took approximately 14hours in total to arrive at hotel. Even though the plane ride was only about 5hours, since it was a group trip, it took extra time to ensure everyone is in right place. Despite the exhaustion and drowsiness, no one complained but encouraged others. I was already touched by grace of God before we even began our mission trip. On the second day, I volunteered for the medical service. There were two activities including the medical service, and house painting…

The Civil War legacy still has an impact on Americans today. Today, most Americans look at the Civil War in an awe-inspired perspective. People try to skip over the blood and ugliness that resulted because of it, and instead try to focus on the courage and heroic deeds that soldiers performed. Many today are more likely to view the war as a fight for black freedom instead of for state’s rights, which is what it had previously been known for. The South still seems proud of the Confederate flag, even though it is the cause of a lot of controversy. Some people view it as part of their heritage. Certain topics of the Civil War are still well-known throughout society. Abraham Lincoln, the Gettysburg Address, and the Emancipation proclamation are all examples of what people associate with the Civil War. People try to remember iconic people and images like these, instead of the blood, gore, and hate that took place.…

The night of April, 18, 1775 I was abruptly woken up by some random man running through Boston yelling “The British are coming, the British are coming!” I was not very happy of getting less than a hour of sleep. This weird man came through around 10:30 PM and woke everyone in the town from there sleep. At first when I heard him say that phase I did not know what he meant by it. I then gathered with my neighbors outside and was told if I wanted to fight the British I had to sign my name on the books in the city hall later that evening. When I went to that meeting later that night they told me to go home get a pound of bread a flask of water and my gun, and to also get a little rest and when the drums sound go stand on the green. So I went home and rested a little and then said my goodbyes to little Johnny and Benjamin. Until we all heard the drums. I then went with my…

The bloody plane was shot down…I was sleeping dreaming about a concoction of fish and chips and my home before the war. I lived on a farm, and I had my own horse…I miss him. My dad taught me how to ride when I was four; riding would provide me relief from school and farming. Anyways, I then I awoke to a storm of fire. The plane was literally sliced in two. I think the beastly enemy shot us down. Even though they shot us clean out of the sky, I wish to thank them and show some British manners to them because this island is beautiful. It has fruit, and the sights are more beautiful than anything back home. There are even pigs on the island that we could eat. Sadly, I thought myself alone until a booming noise thundered through the jungle. I was scared; I thought it was an earthquake, although I have never experienced one before.…

When one reads this part, “be anyone for one single day”, from the prompt, I can safely assume most people would think of well known people such as George Washington or Thomas Jefferson. Famous people. However, as for me, my thoughts were the complete opposite. The American Revolution was occurring, so there is no time to be famous. I want to fight, I want liberation. I want to be separated from the oppressive Parliament. Who or what I want to do? I want to fight for freedom. In all my experiences, I’ve encountered so many injustices done to other people and myself. I don’t want to be a bystander. There is a strong desire to participate in this war so I can change the world and make it a better place. There shall be no more injustices, no more…
